Gillette razor ID and dating please

I won this Gillette razor in an auction today And would like some help identifying the model and era as I’m mostly familiar with Tech or SuperSpeeds. I don’t even own a Gillette with an open comb. These are some of the photos posted by the vendors.
It was listed with this wording - Vintage Gillette Double Comb Double Edge Safety Razor Gold Brass Tone Canada -A8

You have a Gillette Single Ring razor made in Canada. I don’t think that there is a great resource for Canadian date codes for these.

I always hear people talking single ring and double ring but I don’t really know what they’re referring to.
The vender mentions A8 in the sales header, but I won’t know what that refers to until I get the razor.

Double Rings have two “rings” at the top of the handle. It was the first Gillette model. They quickly updated the handle to have a single “ring”.

It is a Gillette Slim Adjustable.

Welcome to the forum @the6thdan, as mentioned you have a Gillette Slim. Great razors all though I use mine on the same setting all the time. I like the weight of the razor. It looks in pretty good shape, give it a spa and give it a try.

What is a spa?

Also I assume 10 is the most aggressive setting?

Give it a spa just means a gentle cleaning.

They only go to 9 - and, yes, that is the most aggressive setting (but it is not scarily so).

Congrats! The Slim is a fantastic razor.

Give it a clean in some hot water and dishwashing detergent. I normally give mine a few soaks and scrubs after I buy them. I quite often dribble the dishwashing detergent under the baseplate from the side and down the shaft from the top, let it soak for a little while and then pour on the hot water. I would use an old toothbrush to scrub it.
