Gillette NEW v Gillette NEW

I'm getting ready to venture down the old NEW road. Actually, I have a world famous Bob's Razor Works Bull Mastiff on order. Prior to placing an order with Bob, I noticed that the NEW came in two comb lengths. I've attached one of Bob's photos below (I hope you don't mind Bob) to illustrate the two comb styles I'm referring to. I'm not talking about new and improved, just NEWs.

I realize this is a total YMMV topic, but I'm curious if anyone has used both styles and if you wouldn't mind sharing thour thoughts. Unfortunately, the word 'NEW' is deemed by our search engine as being too short or too common to search, so I can't search the site for this reference.

Mike, try a Google search; you should turn up some threads. I have both comb styles, and really can't tell a huge difference. My preference is for the shorter comb, but it's hard to say why.

I have both styles and have shaved with both recently. I don't find much difference, if any, between the two.

The only difference I've noticed is between a British NEW and one made in the USA. I find the British NEW to be a little bit more agressive. But I love both.

+1

Love the British head!

There is a signifigant difference in blade gap on the long vs the short. The short has basically 0, while the long has .019, pretty much the same as a Fatboy on setting 3.

I'm putting some NEW heads in the mail to Bob today, some short tooth and some long tooth. Bob's going to do some replating for me, but I think next I'll have to try his Bull Mastiff handle. It's a great looking handle, and I like the larger, heavier razors, and with a NEW head sure looks like it would be a great shaver.

I prefer the long comb, but not by much.
I just finished a shave with the short-comb NEW. These are the best DE razors Gillette ever made.
