Gillette NEW Belmont De Luxe in Chrome

Found the Belmont in an auction box lot this week; the price was right! It is in great shape with clear Gillette markings, no serial number, and the case. I am ecstatic about the Belmont, it may be the best razor I have. I used it today and the results were superb requiring no special effort. (For comparison I've been using on rotation a Double-Ring & Old Type w/ Tech fat handle (identical shavers) and a silver Tuckaway. I also have a 501 & Somerset but have yet to try them.) Here it is -

The head on the the razors mentioned are the same but the Big Boy's shaft is longer and a bit heftier and the Criterion I had was in gold.

Congrats. Beautiful. Are you sure it's chrome? I somehow thought that all these razors were silver plated and not chrome. If it's silver, then it's even better. Just be very careful about polishing it. You don't want to wear off the plating.

Thank you! I am going by Achim's page on the finish, chrome actually surprised me. You see it how I got it, there was zero tarnish. Further, the silver has a slightly blue cast to it. That does seem like chrome to me. Every silver-plate one I've gotten is always blackened and when cleaned there is a white cast, no color at all.

These are some of the only razors that Gillette ever chrome plated, and more often than not when you find them they still look like the day they were made. Here's an ad for this particular style that mentions the chrome plating:

Looks Sweet Congrats. I also hear that those are some pretty aggresive Razors, The ones with the Flat Bottom Plate, Have you shaved with it yet ?

In my first post I said it's my best razor. I meant that as to how it shaves, wonderfully! I found it less aggressive than the DR/OT and more forgiving than the Tuckaway. I made the switch to OC's a few months ago and have not looked back. I really like how they work and this one stands out, for me. (I've also come to understand since starting this odyssey that my perfect shave could indeed be your worst nightmare.)

Cheers!

GREAT SCORE!!! I really like the NEW De Luxe razors. I have one errrr two Criterions which are the gold version of that razor. I get a great shave from them. For my face they are more comfortable than the New Improved/New Standards. I also like using a NEW De Luxe Tuckaway head on a longer handle. The Big Boy Hybrid handle works nicely.....

Just for the record, the Belmont and the Criterion are the exact same razor in different cases, and there were gold and chrome versions of both.. The Criterion came in a leather-covered case (like the one in the ad above) and the Belmont in a plated metal one.

The Brits also did a two-piece version in silver and gold, like these two of mine:
