Gillette fusion proglide

Hi all,

I shave only couple of times a week and my shaving hair is not thick. I am using Gillette fusion Proglide.

I want to know how many shaves I can do with this ?

Which is the best razor in this price range ?

You won't get too many responses to this question. Cartridge razors are the devil, especially the gillette fusion... Pick up a safety razor and you'll never look back!

Those questions are highly subjective.

The best advice is just to use the cartridge until your shaves become uncomfortable. How many shaves is that?....You tell us.

I use a Gillette Fusion Proglide, and it's the best razor I've ever used.

How long the cartridge lasts will not be the same for everybody. You find out by using it until the day it feels uncomfortable. A good lather is important in making the cartridge shave very smooth and effortless. I'm doing a test right now and on day 13 the blades are still sharp and smooth on the face. A friend of mine uses a cartridge for five weeks or so. Aces!

Like others are advising, you have to test for yourself to find the threshold for your blades. Just remember cleaning the blades with a light stropping motion and then softly pat drying them to make sure there is no water on the blade will help prolong the life, but blades are disposable, it wont last forever. Also using good lather products will help ensure the blade rinses clean and prevent it from clogging on you. Try some of these things out for yourself.

Also if you want to stick with carts and stay with multiblade carts, but want to save some money, Dollar Shave Club offers monthly plans and have a decent reputation. I speak through reputation, not experience.

Good Luck!

I stand corrected... Before I made the DE switch I could go 2-3 weeks, but yes it is subjective...

Both the safety razor and a Fusion are the devil. The DE is the devil because of poor shaves. The Fusion is the devil because they are so pricey.

I used the M3 and I shave my head as well. I only got 1 head shave and 2 'good' face shaves before I had to change the cart. Too blasted expensive! That's why I used to sport a beard and a 'high & tight' from Oct to March every year. But YMMV. If just shaving the face, I may have gotten a week or more out of it, I'll never know now.

Depends on your facial hair. How dense is it? How thick? My friend can shave with disposable razors (yes razors, not carts), while I couldn't go more than 3 days without having to fight with my Gillette Fusion. If I shaved everyday, my Fusion carts would last about a week and a half before it was unbearable.

Both the safety razor and a Fusion are the devil. The DE is the devil because I can't master it.

Fixed that for you. :wink2:

I could get five or six shaves from an M3 cartridge before it started getting tuggy. With light growth you'll probably get a few more, but the best option is to just test it yourself. Keep count of how many shaves you have on a cartridge and chuck it when you notice it getting uncomfortable.

What is safety razor ? Can you give me few examples ?

A cartridge razor is a safety razor too.

But new converts to DE razors love to hate cartridge razors. Just like ex smokers are often the fiercest among the anti smoke camp.

Every razor with a safety feature to protect you from the blade is a safety razor.

I think what Leucke meant was to pick up a double-edged (DE) razor and "you'll never look back!" But, if a Pro Glide works for you, good.

I'll echo everybody else and say you have to see for yourself about how long your razor will work for you.

Yes, Double Edged-DE :)

Welcome to B&B first of all! A great old school wet shaving forum dedicated to the shaves of our fathers and in some cases the old geezers never left it:) To answer your question the milage you get from any blade is dependent on the persons facial hair. You could be a mountain man of a logger and dull the rasior sharp edge of an axe after one shave or have a double edge blade last you six months as you have peach fuzz. Really depends.

Now something to think about. Would you like to save a lot of money on razor blades? What if you could buy 100 blades for the price of on four pack of Fusions? How long would that last you you think? Get a simple razor like a Tech, Flare tip or slim adjustable and right off the bat you'll save couple hundred in the first year. (I hear the guys laughing) Really give old school shaving a try. Well worth the effort.

I used to use the Fusion. I would use a cart until it cut me. Sometimes that was a few days, sometimes a few months - not that it was all that comfortable after a few days, but I am cheap. Now, after switching to DE/SE shaving, I get better shaves (closer and more comfortable) for less money (assuming you depreciate the cost of razors and brushes over their useful lives).
