Gillette Flare tip, J1 notes.

OK - today I received a very nice clean J1 Flaretip; cleaned and polished it, then took a 'test drive'. I've been shaving with my new Mergress, Slim and Fatboy adjustables and wasn't getting the close 'bite' I am used to with those. So I thought about it and opened the doors a little bit and discovered it DID change the angle of the blade; and I very carefully finished the under-jaw side that way.

I dunno if that's something you've tried, but in a pinch, it worked really well, and without any nicks, but I was really careful and did the job with a lot of lather.

Just thought I'd see if this is an old trick with the Superspeeds I could pass along!

That is a method that Gillette has actually recommended down though the years. My only concern would be if the knob were to continue loosening as one shaved. Congrats on your success though.

That Is interesting, thanks for the info. And yes, this razor is in good enough condition that it's still tight. I did worry about that...!
