Gillette Blacks :-)

I'm two months into DE shaving and have tried roughly 6 blades so far. I've made great progress in my technique and my favorites were Feathers and Astra's. This last week I tried some Gilette Blacks and I must say I thought they were some damn fine blades! I used some wool fat and DE89 and I have to say - wow!

I see a lot of people loving the Feathers and Astra's but not too many mentions of the Gillette Blacks. Do any of you find them to be great blades too?

There are quite a few fans of the Blacks on the forum. I liked them myself. They are a bit pricey in most places, but there are deals on them to be found. I actually liked the Blues a little better.

I was going to say the same thing, they are quite popular but more difficult to come by. Blacks and Silver Blues are my top two blades currently after trying quite a few different blades.

I agree they are a bit pricey and harder to find. I see 427TRI likes the "silver blues". Are there Blues and Silver Blues or are they one and the same? I'm glad a couple people mentioned they like the Blues because I have a sample box of those also. Looking forward to trying them. I tried a couple Shark SS the last couple days and they are going into my "try again in the future" bag of samplers. I keep my sampling pretty simple. After trying two blades from a sample five pack they go into 1 of three category bags. 1st is - I want to order a hundred of these. 2nd is - I'll try these again in the future bag. 3rd is I'll try these again in the very far future... if ever bag.

I love them. Almost as sharp as feathers, but smoother. The Gillette blues are a smidge less sharp, but even smoother in my book.

They are different blades, also I believe the Silver Blues are no longer in production. What you see for sale is remaining stock.

I love them also, bounce back and forth between them and feathers. I got them from an Indian company, think they were around 20.00 for 100, if you figure that's about a half a years worth it's not bad at all

If they were a little cheaper, say 20 cents a blade, and readily available I would buy a lifetime supply. They are in my 3 blade rotation with Feathers and Iridium Supers. I just picked up some Silver Blues as well and have liked them so far. Need to try them in a few more razors though. I really wish the distribution/price was better with the Blacks.

India uses the most DE blades of any country. The blacks are their most expensive blade. This is a case of your getting what you pay for.

I got a sample pack of blacks and really enjoyed using them. Better than Feathers for me, less razor burn on my neck. My two favorite blades are Gillette blacks and red IPs.

I'm waiting on a sale on Gillette blacks and then will make my first 100 blade purchase.

I Googled around and found the Gillette Silver Blues. It appears they're the same price point as the 7 'oclock blues. I'm pretty happy though to have found the blacks. I will keep my eye out for specials on those for sure. I'm also looking forward to trying the blacks in different razors - in particular the Slim.

More love for the Silver Blues....and you like the Silver Blues better.... interesting. I've definitely added those to my list to try. This is great info as before today I hadn't even heard of the Silver Blues. Thanks for the info!

What's a decent deal on Black & Silver Blue (100-pack) ... $20/20?

From just Googling around I'm seeing ~ 50 for Blacks and ~ 32 for the Silver Blues but I'm also interested to hear what people have to say as far as what's considered a decent deal. I have definitley learned on this forum to look to Jason aka Dridiot to get my Feathers.

WCS and Razor Blades and More also have them at a higher price point though. Also Desistore.net has them. They're based in India too. Both the India vendors have solid reps from what I've read. There is a longer wait time but well worth it.
