Isn't the Gillette Aristocrat No.15 (solid guard bar / closed comb), and the Aristocrat No.21 actually the same razor, just different razor gift set numbers?
Straight to the point: yes!Isn't the Gillette Aristocrat No.15 (solid guard bar / closed comb), and the Aristocrat No.21 actually the same razor, just different razor gift set numbers?
In the grand scheme of Aristocrats, does that make the #16 more or less desirable than the closed comb 15 & 21's?The Gillette Aristocrat No.15, and the Aristocrat No.21 look identical to my eye - (everything looks identical between the #15 and the #21 razors: identical looking unnotched razor heads, identical looking handles - with an opening in the handle knob, similar (&/or) same razor weight, etc.). . . The #16 razor is significantly different than the #15 / #21 razors. . . The #16 razor has a notched razor head, the handle knob is closed / no opening, the #16 razor is significantly heavier than the #15 / #21 razors, etc.
Very cool stuff. Gillette was a master at rebranding the same razor.

And both types are beautiful!
Personal preference, I'd say...
IME, the #16 (3rd gen Aristocrat) is a milder shaver than the #15/21 (2nd gen).

I'll say...
Now I need an OC TTO with the blade gap of the NEW SC! Yes I said need lol.
Good to know, thanks!
If you actually read the description of the #15 in that catalog image, it says the #20 is illustrated...the #15 is open comb. .The #15 comes as close comb too. The #15 and #21 are the same razors in different boxes. Here is a 1948 Australian catalog:
