gillette adjustables?

So I've been eyeing the adjustable Gillettes, but am wondering a few things about them. Hopefully you guys can give some good advice. First, what are the diameters and length of the "Fat Boy" and the Slim handles? Second, how much cleaning do these razors require? I am used to 3 piece razors which require pretty much nothing. Seems to me that with these razors being TTO and adjustable that soapy water would totally work its way into these razors and make them pretty scummy after not very long. Thanks in advance for everybody's advice!

I can't answer your diameter and length question because I don't own a measuring tape at home...

But as far as cleaning goes, it's rather strange that these razors don't seem to accumulate that much soap compared to other razors. For example my merkur will look frosty white on the bottom after only 5 shaves, but the Slim doesn't. Taking the razors apart is possible but I don't plan on doing so very often. A soak in scrubbing bubbles will get most of the crap off of them and even inside as well. Honestly I haven't found myself worrying about that problem in the slightest yet.

I'll have to skip the measurements as well, because I don't have an example handy.

As for the cleaning thing -- yes, they do gather a little bit of soap scum at a time, but if you give them an occasional (every 2-3 months) spritz and toothbrushing with scrubbing bubbles and an overnight soak in soapy water, they don't accumulate much. I have an ultrasonic cleaner, which is really good at getting rid of the crud, but provided you keep it clean, it won't gather much to begin with. It's not that much effort, truth be told.

Really, the Gillette adjustables are worth picking up. Find a decent example and you'll see why some many people like them.
Hope it helps,

Yes, I also have an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner{$40}. I also brush them occasionally with a tooth brush and tooth paste. Very easy to keep clean.

-100 on the Scrubbing Bubbles. Gillette adjustables simply don't get clogged up if you rinse them well after each use. But IF you do decide to use scrubbing bubbles on them, be very, very careful around the painted numbers, etc as the paint will come off. Otherwise, I have had no problems whatsoever with soap scum buildup on mine and I use them almost daily.

I've owned the same FB and Slim for more than 40 years. The only cleaning I do is to run it under hot water daily (and dip it in rubbing alcohol) and once I switch blades I clean it with Scrubbing Bubbles. For a good read on maintenance and cleaning go here at the wiki. I have never had a problem with gunk accumulating anywhere on these razors.

The dimensions of the handles are as follows: FB 8 cm long and 1.2 handle width; Slim is 8.5 cm long and 1 cm at width.

I've had a metal, black poled Super Adjustable (the unloved one around here) for decades. I only ever washed it with water most of the time when I was using regularly. Ocassionally I'd have to rub parts with a cotton bud.

Renato

Thanks for everyones' input! It seems my speculation of an adjustable's upkeep was incorrect. That's good. What would be considered a fair price for a Slim? For a Fat Boy?
