Gillette Adjustable Field Strip

I recently saw a post with information about disassembling a Gillette Adjustable and I can't find it now.

I won an auction for a Gillette Long Black Handled Adjustable Slim, and I will be cleaning it up when I get it. Any insight about a tear down (should it be needed) would be helpful.

Congrats on the new adjustable.

Probably all it will need it a good soak in hot water and dishsoap, and a little intimacy with a soft toothbrush. Disassembly is hardly ever necessary.

Thanks,

I'm anticipating that disassemble won't be needed, but my inner mechanic tell me that I want to be able to if needed.

Does anyone know what thread that was in? I had no success using "search".

I found everything I need with a google search. Google searches inside B&B than the B&B search function.

Be careful, I was watching a video about my Slim Adjustable and the guy said that some of them are very hard to put back together, even though they may seem ot come apart easy. They were basically built to last a lifetime without having to be taken apart.

I have 2 adjustables both were gunked up when I got them and neither required to be taken apart. Hot water, a toothbrush, and maybe a barbicide soak will fix your problems. I have the same obsession with mechanics and taking things apart that you do but trust me its not worth it in this case. All that is in there is dirt and soap scum for the most part, both of which hot water will have no issue getting loose.

Regards
Dave

I will accept your advise and start by cleaning and hope that disassembly won't be needed.

I spent the better part of my adult life as an auto mechanic or service manager, so I'm not particularly worried about re-assembly. I also agree that you are almost always better off avoiding disassembly whenever possible.

I used the hot water from my Keurig and some dish soap, let it soak, and the TTO will loosen right up. It may take a couple soaks. You will see all the nastiness flaking off into the water. Once you don't see any more dirt coming off, if its still a little rough, you could try spraying some WD40 down there. I've done this on many different occasions and never had to disassemble anything.
