Gillette 7 O'Clock Dk Blue vs Silver Blue

Has anybody used both of these, and if so can you compare them. I was getting ready to buy 100 Dk Blue, when they disappeared from the market place, so I'm wondering if the Silver Blue might be the same blade under different label.

As I am sure you know, the Gillette 7 O'clock Super Platinum normally (Blue) comes from PPI in St Petersburg in Russia. There is also the Czech version and this one does not shave like the Silver Blue. To me, at least, the Silver Blue feels a little smoother. I cannot say for the Russian version since it's been awhile since I had a sample.

I believe they both come from the same St Petersburg Plant, but so do a lot of other blades, that don't feel the same.

Yes, I think mainly it's the coatings. The primary grind looks about the same on most of the blades (it's not, but it's mostly uniform).

Several years ago, GSBs were made at Czech s.r.o, then production switched to St Petersburg. The 7 O'clock Super Platinum (Blue) were also made there, I believe, then production switched to St. Petersburg. Now 7 O'clock Super Platinum blades from Czech s.r.o. are popping up again, and I think it's been suggested by some members of the forum that the blade is maybe being produced in Czechoslovakia again. I guess stocks are hard to find atm. There are some on eBay.

from what I remember of the Dark blue plats they were pretty un-remarkable, the GSB is a great blade

I liked them a lot. The best Gillette Blade I have tried to date. I thought they were comparable to S.Is and perhaps even Feathers based on the number of good shaves I got from them. How would you compare the GSBs to S.Is. or Feathers?

Never used a SI but compared to feathers they are much more forgiving and comfortable but still nearly as sharp, always a consistent good shave from the first to the fouth!

I have used both. Blues used to be my favorite until I picked up some GSBs. They give me a smoother shave and I haven't looked back. To my knowledge they are not the same blade (however they are both from St. Petersburg.)

I have used both. The 7 O'Clock Dark Blue is pretty much a "meh" blade for me. Not bad, not good, nothing special at all. The Silver Blues perform better in every respect. The are smoother, sharper, and give 1 or 2 additional shaves. For me, it is no contest, Silver Blue.
