Gillette 1969 adjustable short handle

So I decided to buy myself a great Birthday present off ebay.....a birth year razor. 1969 Gillette adjustable short handle. It's in great shape.



I have taken and soaked it in Marvacide and then took it to my local tattoo shop and had them run it through their autoclave.....should be good to go correct? In other words, I should be ok to not catch someone elses cooties? Also while I'm here, is the number 1 on the adjustment the most aggressive or is the number 9?

No 9 is wide open I.e. most aggressive, you should be cootie proof at this point

I think the cooties are beyond nuked at this point. I have a '70 long-handled Super Adjustable, and it's my current favorite. Big fan of SAs!

All you need is scrubbing bubbles and a toothbrush, then 10 min max in a disinfectant (barbicide or marvicide). That will take care of everything from hep b and hiv on down to basic cooties. More than that and you are removing finish/plating/metal not germs

I like the short handle version a little better then the long handled one. I hope that autoclave didn't damage anything.

An autoclave is sufficient to kill anything, it's the means by which surgical instruments are sterilized. Congrats on the razor, that's a great model.

That is a nice Razor,
now normally razors do not get cooties unless they are 1. touched by a girl, 2. touching something a girl touched.

Cures: Wash infected Item thoroughly, then cross your fingers for 30 seconds. Repeat this 5 times and you're cured.

Prevention: You can always get the cootie shot. Just repeat this while making the shapes on your arm: Circle Circle Dot Dot Now I Got The Cootie Shot.

Great razor. I've got the long handled and, as said above, it does a wonderful job. I really want to get a short handled one like yours bu they don't crop up to often this side of the pond.

gearchow....The autoclave worked great....no damage at all....didn't remove the black on the numbers which I was afraid of. The owner of the tattoo shop was a DE razor user as well and was more than happy to help me out and charged me absolutely nothing even though I offered $20.

KcHighLife: I think you're right.....My quest for the entire "family" of birth year razors has now begun.

I used the razor this morning set on 4 and it was wonderful. Previously I was using the Merkur 180. I think I will alternate between them.
