Gillette #16 vs #66

Hey guys, from what I understand, these razors appear to be the same other than the #66 has a Super Speed/Rocket style head and the #16 has the flat baseplate. The #16 appears to me like it would have a more solid head, does anyone have any insight as to how these two compare otherwise? Shave quality? Thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong, I believe it's a #16.

The #16 is a very smooth shaver, it's one of my favourites, it just has the heavier head over the #66.

I havent used a #66 to compare though, the #16 is the heaviest arisotcrat i think..

I assume the difference is the same as that of a '40's rocket and an aristocrat junior

the #16 has about 10 g more weight than a #66, asitsalgravy said the #16 is the heaviest of the brit aristos, in saying that the #66 is not exactly a lightweight at about 73g, some guys like the #66 over the #16.some the #16 over the #66, both great razors. if you can get both.:wink2:

Well I managed to get the pictured razor on eBay for $37 so I couldn't pass it up. I have a feeling I may have to wait awhile to find a #66 at a reasonable price, although truth be told I would prefer a #88.

I recently acquired both of these razors. The No. 16 about a month ago and the No. 66 just a few days ago. In fact, I've only shaved with the No. 66 once. All I can say at this point is that the No. 16 gave me the smoothest shave with a TTO, and possibly of any DE that I own. The one shave with the No. 66 was also spectacular. The additional weight of the No. 16 is noticeable and would say that it is mostly heavier in the head, affecting the balance...... in a good way in my opinion. I will report back later after I've had more shaves with both razors.
