German DE Blades

Does anyone know if there are any German made DE blades out there besides Merkur? You would think that Solingen being the knife and razor capital of the world would have several types of DE blades available. Just wondering, because I can't find any.

Souplex, Croma and Rotbart to name but a few. Timor is probably Souplex.

Todays setup (Godrej menthol mist shaving cream, Gillette SS 1956 with Bolzano blade, HEMA AS cream) almost worked fine for me. But I performed my routine to hastily, so caused myself some nicks in the process and not too BBS results on some places. But generally, I like the Bolzano blade and will probably keep it in my regular rotation.

Bolzano and ELIOS are, respectively, Italian and Spanish brands, but are currently made in Germany.

I can tell you that I'm very much enamored with 2 german-made blades: souplex and timor. As Wil suggests, they may be the same thing, but I find Timors to be very sharp, but the smoother of the two. Souplex is a little less forgiving, to me, and extremely sharp. Perhaps they are the same material from the same factory, but maybe there's a difference in production process?

Anyhow, neither of those blades is very cheap (40-50 cents/blade or so), so be prepared to pay a premium. From a quality standpoint, however, they can't be beat in my opinion.

Place to get Souplex:

Place to get Timor:

Timors also seem to be available at a couple other online retailers. I could only find souplex at the link above, though.

Hope it helps,
-- Chet

Well I checked out the links you sent, and decided to order some Timor. I noticed that there are no reviews for this blade, so I will post one as soon as I try one. Thanks for the info.
