Gentleman's Attire

So what do you all wear when you want to go out and look like a presentable gentleman and take the woman out, or just wanna look classy while your out.

personally I like different kinds of ties so I don't just blend in, whether it be an ascot around my neck under my shirt with my top button undone, a nice cravat or wearing a 'puff tie' as most people seem to call that style(will provide pic at end of post). And I like to rock a grey 3 piece with very thin pin stripes and brown shoes. Grey suits and brown shoes go so well together.

Sounds interesting, but an ascot is not a look I could pull off.

Personally, just being well groomed and wearing nice clean clothes is enough for my wife. We are pretty low keyed when we go out.

I live in an area of the country where dressing well means the gentleman is wearing a shirt with buttons and a collar. I also like to push the style envelope just a bit, but for me, being well dressed for any occasion means putting on a nice long sleeved shirt, slacks, bow tie, blazer or sports coat, shined leather shoes and a fedora that matches the outfit. If I was going to take the wife out for a special occasion, then I would wear a suit... either charcoal grey or midnight blue with shined black oxfords. My avatar depicts how I pretty much dress for most occasions, whether it is going to a lunch or a visit to the doctors or a trip to visit friends.

YES! Black not brown with gray suit

You can definitely pull off brown with gray. It takes just the right shade of brown, and total confidence. That said, I would personally go black with gray, but I am not a gray person anyway. Navy suits are the cats pajamas.

ascots? cravats? make sure when "dressing up" you're not just playing dress up. dressing "up" and "down" should look equally effortless. i would play with color before taking stabs at unusual pieces of flair clothing. that includes pirate/puffy shirts.

i'm not at all opposed to brown shoes with a grey suit. it can be a great look. i think it's modern and fresh.

Has nothing to with confidence, it's a bad combo; cordovan works!

I know what you mean, but I've been doing it since I was younger, I never like a black suit, black tie and black shoes, you just blend in with everyone else wearing a suit, and I never wear like a flashy neon colour ascot or anything. So it looks natural while still looking a bit nicer or different

This. I'd feel unbearably pretentious in an ascot or cravat. In fact, you'd sooner see me in capris and espadrilles.

I'm not opposed to brown with a grey suit either. It really depends shade of grey and the shade of brown. As a rule of thumb one's shoes should be at least as dark as the suit. Brown with a lighter gray, yes. Oxblood with dark grey, yes. Brown with charcoal, no.

Brown shoes & grey suit? Just fine, imho. The darker the suit, the darker the shoes.

I like to wear bowties personally. I get weird stares with bowties, I can only imagine the looks one receives wearing an ascot.

Depends on the person and what you wear with it, I've had people come and ask me hey man what kind of tie thing is that and I've got compliments, and a few weird looks, but you seem to get weird looks if your wearing anything but a t shirt these days

Mid Grey and Mid Brown work great together. Whenever I bust out my grey suit, the brown shoes and belt are worn with them. Which is really only for weddings and such.

The most dressed up I usually get is: Jeans, Button Up shirt, Sport coat, drivin moccasins. And sometimes a knit tie if I am feeling extra 'saucy'

Something like the below minus the cart :biggrin1:
