Gentle Polishing PIF

So, due to my recent success with cleaning and polishing of several Travel Techs I recently procured, I decided to do some good for a few guys around here. If you're not comfortable polishing or afraid of damaging your razor, I have a tumbler that I used for my razors. This method of polishing is VERY gentle and won't harm the finish on a standard razor. Laquered gold plated razors need not apply due to the fragile nature of the laquer. This method of polishing is about as "aggressive" as you can get without actually removing any metal.

So, here it is and how it's going to work: You pay round trip for your razor, when it gets here it'll take a round in my tumbler with clean corncob and I'll send it back to you. If the interest for this is there, I'll do this for 5 guys (as many razors as you want me to do, you can stuff in the box.) I'll use the randomizer at random.org to pick. If it goes well and people like their results, I'll probably do it again. I'll close this when I get 20 or so entries, or after a few days.

If you want in, post a picture of something shiny. Here's the Techs I got, before and after a tumble. More pictures are in my gallery.

EDIT: I wouldn't recommend this for TTOs, as this process can produce a fine dust that can get in the mechanism. I will do one if you want me to, just be warned.

Cool PIF and great restore jobs. I have a rubberset aluminum shave brush that I am going to soon start a restore on. It is highly tarnished. I wonder if the tumbler would work for the brush as well.

I am on my iPad now. I will post something shiny To be officially in when I get back from vacation with the inlaws. Just tonight my father in law gave me his father's shaving set up when he found out that I was into wet shaving. This included the brush.

It sure would as long as it's just the handle. Although aluminum tarnish is very hard, I've had good luck with it.

Got a pic of the tumbler? Amazing results.

I remember that I wanted a rock tumbler when I was a kid - my parents thought it was "stupid." Guess I have to get one for my son now - he'll probably think it is stupid. Funny how that works.

It's basically the same style (just way smaller) that machinists and parts manufacturers use to clean up parts. It takes a LONG time if you don't clean them first. I did a Simple Green soak for about 2 hours, then a quick scrub with a toothbrush, then into the tumbler. Any rust left after the Simple Green will usually come off in the tumbler. Because I use such a soft media, it takes a long time, but it doesn't harm the finish.

I think I'm in. I have a few techs that I'd love polished, plus 2 of the aluminum Rubberset handles. I'd rather have the handles done - if'n I had to make a choice.

How's this for a "shiny" picture? (Any Firefly fans out there?)

I have an aluminum-handled Rubberset #400 that I polished with Flitz. WOW!! It's an instantaneous transformation from dull and oxidized to shiny and new -- highly recommended for any aluminum jobs.

I've used Mothers, and that worked; and I have some Wenol, which I haven't tried yet. I'm trying to get some of the "fogging" out of the handle. It's shiny, but not as much as I'd like. (sorry for the thread hijack!)

Tonimus, I've got a travel tech that could use some love.

I'll be sure to put pics up when I get it back.

Joshgambit, I am a Firefly nerd. Have the series on DVD. Since we've got so few takers it the first five to respond. Joshgambit and Omak, you've got PMs even though Omak didn't post something shiny!

Wow those results are really amazing

I looked for media and didnt see it
What media are you using for the tumbling process?

I have some friends that do reloading for metallic cartridges so Im thinking walnut would work well also

Im not sure if they use walnut or corn
I will find out :)

Joshgambit was the first one to take me up on the gentle polishing. Here's the before:

Nice job first of all & really generous of you. I wish this worked on adjustables. Unfortunately had B&B members report back that their(walnut, corn etc) got stuck inside the hole on top. This would be a winner.
