GEM Push Button in terms of aggressiveness

I tried my first shave with a SE today - a GEM Push Button with a GEM blade. It went much better than I thought it would. I took it slow, watched my angle and pressure and got a dfs.

I would like to experiment with other SE razors. My question is: Where does the GEM Push Button stand in terms of aggressiveness with respect to other SE razors?

Hello from across the creek! The Push Button, along with every model made after the Micromatic Clog pruf are generally considered milder than the earlier models. Of course, like most everything else, YMMV.

I will say that the Open Comb MicroMatic is a fickle beast. She will give you love bites if she feels neglected or spurned. The other MicroMatics are much less severe.

Thanks for the feedback. After I become a little more proficient with the Push Button, I may try an oc, but for now I'm really happy with the shave I got with this little GEM.

The Push Button is my favorite SE as its the most mild of them (but still aggressive by DE standards IMO), but the push button can get clogged with soap and not stay closed. So its a mixed bag (with mine).

The GEM Push Button is a razor that I've been using for quite some time now and I love it. For me it"s a little more aggrestive than the Clog pruf or bullit tip.

Thanks for the offer. I want to become proficient with what I have for now, but I may take you up on this offer some day in the future.

Same here - I don't know about you but the SE is definitely NOT a razor I was thinking I would enjoy, I always thought they looked kind of ugly.
I got mine by bidding on a LOT of razors on the BAY....but wow - what a shave!'I looked at my face in the mirror at 10pm last night and there were still parts of my beard with NO GROWTH at all, cleanly shaven. Really amazing.

Same here. Didn't think I would like it but figured, what the hell, I own it, lets try it. Glad I'm a risk taker when it comes to new toys.

Too funny - the razors you think you'll love don't work, the ones you never thought you'd like become your favorites
What a fun thing to collect - something you can use every day!

If you really like the Push Button now, don't be surprised if you love it even more later. When I first started collecting SE's The push button and I didn't get along well at all. There were far more mysterious and exciting SE's to acquire and use. Damaskeene, OCMM, Clog Pruf? There was nothing to desire in the lightweight unfancy, simplistic design of the push button.

However, over the years as I rotated my SE shaves and collection. The Push Button seemed to on it's own, start trying to garner my attention. It's lightweight, so if a person has good dexterity and fine motor function, the push button's clean lines and simple design allows one to glide and move the razor in a more nimble fashion than the other SE's.

It is kind of like the DE fat handled tech, in that instead of having an heavy aggressive razor just from sheer weight, the razor allows someone with excellent shaving skill, to make the push button as aggressive or mild as they choose, just by knowing when and how to allow and place the right amount of pressure.

I own every GEM short of the mythical Jewel. And the humble Push Button is my favorite razor and shave.
