Gem Micromatic Closed Guard

Just stumbled upon a Gem Micromatic closed guard for FREE. I don't know anything about these things. Any good links to get a read up on? What's the in and outs of these razors? Should I try one? Any advantages? Disadvantages?

Thank you

Before the GEMocrats stop in, I'll pose an additional question to that of the original poster: Is a "Micromatic Closed Guard" the same thing as a Clogpruf?

I'm going to say, it could be the same. The "magic eye" or bullet tip Micromatic could also be called a closed guard. The Clug-Pruf will say "Clog-Pruf" inside the head. The bullet tip just says GEM Micromatic, and has that nice "magic eye" looking at you from the top of the cap.
As for use, check this out for some helpful tips, then use it as soon as you find some blades. The Micromatics provide some of the best shaves you will ever get. Unless you are one of the guys they don't like, then it will tear your face to shreds:wink:

I use a GEM Micromatic Clog-Pruf, among other GEMs. These are excellent razors and if you can DE shave, you can easily adapt to SE shaving. When you find the right angle the blade will "sing" through the whisker. I don't use the Micromatic as much lately, not because I don't like it, more, that I have been using the Junior in my SE rotation. I'll probably use the Micromatic now that I've seen this post, and it might end up my "favorite" again.
Oh yeah, I use the GEM Personnas. I can get them at Fred Myers here in the Northwest, but others carry them and they seem to be good blades.
