GEM G-Bar: Ouch!

I've been sampling SEs lately, and today I tried a G-Bar. It felt rough, didn't give a very close shave, and left me with some nasty razorburn. I worked slowly, had a decent lather, experimented with angle (all the way from parallel to perpendicular), and just never found it.

I've gotten great shaves from a GEM 1912, good ones from an Everready 1914, a decent one from a Micromatic (all with new blades out of the same pack), and now this.

Am I doing something wrong here, or is the shave quality that different?

I find the G to be a very mild razor, especially compared to other GEM ER models. If I go for a close shave with a mild razor, I'll inevitably give myself razor burn. That may be what happened to you.

You may wish to try putting the razor aside and come back to it in a couple of months and see if you get different results.
