Gel vs. wax

Been using Aveda Shaping Wax for short hair. Holds decently well, but by the end of the day, no hold. Also not as pliable as I would like

Thinking of these and want comments

Jack Black Hair Gel
Aveda Pureformance Grooming Clay
Bumble and Bumble Sumo Tech (not the shiny one but the matte finish)

I dont know what a wax or clay or paste does vs. a gel. Many gels before left me with helmet head but they say that the Jack Black does not. I went into a place and got a sample of the other two and the Bumble and Bumble was good, but it is a wax. hard to apply and the hair feels coated, but it does have a great hold.

Im partial to redken water wax, just enough hold and shine, without looking like u have a lot of product in ur hair. Its a water based pomade so it washes out easily.

I've yet to find a gel that didn't leave my hair feeling crusty. Tigi's Bedhead for Men Matte Wax is really good, in my opinion. I've heard the Bumble Sumo Wax is good, but I haven't tried it due to the price.

I use Enjoy Dry Wax...you can find it on Ebay pretty cheap. It has great hold and last through out the day. No build up, low shine and washes out easily. I also use the American Crew Fiber (blue label) once in a while. I've tried lots of products (10 +). Enjoy Dry Wax is hard to beat. Avoid gel if you can.

I use the Aveda Grooming Clay. It gives a nice hold without making my hair look like a helmet or shiny/oily.

Ok. between Aveda Grooming Clay, Redkens' Manuever Wax, America Crew Fibre and Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shaping Cream or are they all about the same? The Bumble and Bumble is too hard to emulsify and the most expensive per ounce and did not do any better than the Aveda

I'm a huge Aveda fan, but I've never been satisfied with the men's gels or waxes.
I really like the American Crew, but its a bit expensive for me.
I've found the Axe styling product surprisingly good for the price. You should be able to find them anywhere, worth trying.

+1 on the Axe hair products. I currently use the axe hair pomade and I really like it. It's cheap and gets the job done. I'm going to try and get my hands on some Gatsbys Moving Rubber. I hear that the stuff is really great.

American Crew Fiber might be what you're looking for.

I use this and it has pretty good hold, and I have very fine hair.

I also use KMS Soft Wax, or something like that. It has a lighter hold than the American Crew Fiber, but is softer and more pliable.

Neither one makes your hair look like it has product in it.
