Gave my MicroMatic another go today

DFS is just so hard to achieve. Seriously thinking of selling the beast and giving up SE unless I can run across something worth owning at a decent price.

Is that your only SE?
Try a 1912 or an ER 1914 or a G-bar. I find them much easier to shave with than an OCMM.

I have a mint OCMM that my daughter gave me as a present. She found it in an antique store. I've studied the videos and threads on using an OCMM and have not achieved more than an acceptable shave. I probably could get better with time but I just don't want to work that hard. I have to keep it for for sentimental and collector reasons but it won't get much use. I really want to find a G-bar.

1912! Or, even better, the GEM Jr. Bar. 1912s are available on eBay all day long, every day. The Jr. Bar is a lot more rare.

SWMBO weighed in this PM. She didn't like the feel of my beard against her face. My Flying Wing Silver Bullet is going to get cleaned up and she will put it on the bay sometime soon.

Oh it's the Flying Wing? I found that the easiest of the 3 MMs.
You could try a trade on the BST.....your MM for someone's 1912 or Gbar......just a thought.

Are you holding the razor head almost flat against your face?

The shave angle is 10 degrees or less on a SE razor.

If you hold it like a DE you will be scraping not cutting your beard.

I've tried <10 degrees 5 times. SWMBO has pronounced the razor inadequate. Translation, I get to try something else. Think I may look for a Clog Pruf.

I don't think that a Clog-Pruf will be any different.

Yep that, when I first tried the SE I had a Micromatic OC, looked like a slasher had gotten to me. Hated it so much I put it, and the new blades away... some months later, saw some thread here and tried again, using a much shallower blade angle. Eureka, and not Cali, I had it.

Yesterday I used my MicroMatic fort my second SE shave ever, and achieved a Damn Fine Shave in 2 passes and a little touch up. I tried my first shave with a star lather catcher and I almost gave up on SE shaving. But once I tried my OC MicroMatic I was sold. That little Gem is a good shaver. Looks classy too. I am a Gillette man, but I now dig SE shaving too, so now I can enjoy the best of two worlds. I don't think I'll try that old Star Lather Catcher for awhile though.
