Funny shave-brush patent

There're all sorts of crazy old shaving-brush patents, but I find this one especially amusing for some reason:

Can you imagine trying to lather with a big ol' tube of Proraso sticking out the side? I wonder if this guy tried actually shaving with the thing before he got a patent lawyer.

I think I've seen the Gillette version of this on eBay a few times lately. Basically a brush that ejects lather like some of the modern electrics eject shave goo.

What puzzles me is how you could possible clean the brush with a tube of cream sticking to it.

I can be wrong but I would think that #12 is there to block the tube so you can give the bristles a good wash...

True, but I see no lock or catch. It would be a pain in the butt to hold that down and give it a good cleaning. Especially if your gripping the soft tube of cream as a handle.

Also, #12 doesn't seem to clear the tube that much when released...wouldn't getting the cream out be a pain?

If it is indeed just a bent metal strip, you could as easily pull it up as push it down. Its still bad design, but I doubt getting cream out would be the problem....especially after the wire gets bent up a couple times it wont want to press all the way down anymore. I work with sheet metal every day at work, and once you bend it out to many times it wont ever fit back down exactly right.
