In my recent acquisitions I picked up a Vulfix 38, mainly to add to my collection and as a display brush. I got it yesterday, a beautiful beast! I decided I had to try it at least once, so tonight got out some old Coates Lime and went to work:

Anyone need some lather?:
Post-bloom pic along with my other 'big' brushes, L to R:
Vintage Rooney, Rooney Stubby 3XL, Vulfix 38, Chubby 3, Vintage Rooney Beehive
This thing is totally fun to work with, not practical as a daily user but I may actually use it occaisionally when feeling like some debauchery.
Some random thoughts on it:
-Wasn't as unwieldy and floppy as I expected, the knot is really well made with great hair and quite dense
-Made tons of great, rich lather, pronto! (All the pics with all the lather on it is AFTER I was done shaving, ha)
-I was using a slightly dehydrated Coates cream, which are sometime annoying for me since they never get broken up, the weight of this brush just pulverized it like it was nothing.
-Although meant as a 'display brush' this would actually be a good option for an extremely large person, i.e. 7 foot plus basketball players etc, they need brushes too! This is actually a well-made, usable option, not just a 'novelty' brush which is really what I was expecting. I'm 6 ft with large hands, it is large, but not as awkward as I thought it would be, the handle is actually a very comfortable design if have large (aka huge) hands.
-The handle design is great and would be nice if Vulfix made similar design in some smaller sizes.
-Would be great for lathering legs, full body, head, etc or other large areas is that's needed.
-Handle can double as a weapon if you get attacked while shaving.
-Just the sheer size of it is fun to behold, a great tribute to shave brush craftmanship!
All hail the 38!
next installment: Face lathering!
