I am upgrading from cartridge razors and came to these forums for advice.

I use to use the Mach3 cartridge. But I stopped shaving for a while and use an electric trimmer for maintenance. I think I'm going with a DE to start. And I won't be able to stop myself from moving up to a Straight.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'll now go back to finding answers to my never ending questions. I'll rear my ugly head again if I can't seem to find an answer, but that seems unlikely.

Regards,
Dale

By way of update, I've decided to skip the DE and go straight to the SR. I found a thread here in the Buy-Sell-Trade sub-forum and purchased a nice set of 3 straights and 4 brushes. Before that, I had purchased a Straight off of ebay and a brush, bowl, stand, combo from Fendrihan's, and a Strop from Heriloom Razor Strop Co. as my "complete" save set. And, I found the straight that my father left me. So my current standing is;

5 Straight Razors:
J.A. Henckels 42 (Ebay)
Case Temperite 25 (Dad's)
“Antelope” by Griffion Cutlery Works (@NPV)
Double Duck Special No. 1 (NPV)
Geneva (NPV)

5 Brushes:
Fendrihan 21 mm Horse Hair
Yaqi 24mm Silver Tip
Yaqui 24mm Two Band
Yaqui 22mm Synthetic
Omega 10049 27mm Boar

1 Tony Miller 3" Plain Vanilla Steerhide Strop
1 Unknown Awasedo 2.5"X7.5" Natural Sharpening Stone
1 Nickel Plated Safety Razor and Brush Stand with Bowl
1 Lightfoot's Pure Pine Shave Cream Soap
1 ceramic bowl I stole from the kitchen
And some extras that NPV added to the box.

That's probably enough to set me up indefinitely (less soap of course) but I'd still like to get a USMC and a Damascus/San Mai razor, a Captain's Choice lather bowl, and maybe a couple more brushes, to complete my 7 day set. It remains to be seen whether I can stop at that point or not.

Regards,
Dale
