Frothy lather.not pillowy goodness. What gives?

I have been learning how to lather, and have been kinda happy with the lather I had been using. It had become a great pillowy lather. When I started trying the scuttle, I am now getting a frothy lather, that doesn't lubricate as well. What am I doing wrong? I'm building it just about the same way I had been, but now it has a bunch of bubbles, and that's what it consists of.
How do I fix it?
Thanks!

A scuttle has been known to break down an otherwise good lather due to the heat. In general, if a lather is too 'thin', it's one of two things:

Not enough product
Too much water

Agree with mchad on this one. When I first started lathering for the first time, I could never get the right consistency and I just had to learn exactly how much water and product I needed to use. If the scuttle doesn't work for you, then I would suggest just using a regular bowl or face lathering. Some guys like using a scuttle and some don't. YMMV.

+1 on all the above. You might try using water that is not quite as hot as well to see what happens. You don't need or want scalding water in your scuttle. Hot water from the tap is more than adequate.

Too much heat, definitely. Also, you'll want to avoid lanolin based products in a scuttle, or at least keep the temperature just barely warm. Lanolin melts very easily and will wreck your lather if it's too warm.
