Frog Morton

Just tried this for the first time and I must say it was a tasty treat. It was very smoky and peppery smelling. And it smoked nice and smooth. My question is how us the standard frog motrton differ from the other lines of frog Morton?

Frog Morton is just Virginia and Latakia. Simple... but good. The only other one I've tried is On The Bayou, which is Virginia, Latakia, Turkish (Oriental), and Perique. It is just as silky smooth but turns up the complexity dial a bit with the addition of the Turkish and Perique. I personally can't pick out the Perique in it other than its piquant BBQ character in the tin note (I've read it affects body more than taste in this particular blend) but the Turkish gives it a subtle bright sourness which plays nicely with the sweetness from the Virginia (or from a very mild topping). As with all McClelland tobacco, I love its flavour but it is so mild and smooth, it leaves me wanting more.

I'm a new pipe smoker, but FM on the Town is probably my favorite out of the 8 blends that I have tried so far. The Turkish adds some brightness to the Latakia's smokey goodness. I find the balance of flavors between the turkish and the latakia is just about perfect for me. Close second to FMOTT would be Frog Morton's Cellar. Love the whisky addition.

I have a tin of regular FM on the way, looking forward to trying that.

I guess if I ask a question, I should be able to handle the answer as I now want to go try the rest of the FM lines, but at $19 a tin at my local shop, that will have to wait.

The FM blends can be had for less than half of that (for a 50g tin) if you don't mind ordering online and live in the lower 48. :001_cool:

If the $19 is for a 100g tin, that's not a bad price at all from a B&M.

I really enjoy FM and I also tried the On the Bayou variety and quite enjoy that too, but you have to like Perique. It's not for everyone, brings a distinct brightness akin to a pickle on a hamburger but without being overpowering. Adds a nice dimension to it.

A friend of mine gave me some "Frog Morton" original to try. All i can say is I'm pretty sure I have found one if my favorite tobaccos!! I am a big frankincense and myrrh fan for a long time and bingo. That's what I get from FM original!!

Frog Morton on the town is one that has been on the radar for a while

I love the original one, a favourite in my pipe... thanks Jason
