Frog Morton not for me

tryed Frog morton not for me. smoked one bowl of it its been sitting since may is there a shelf life on it? or do I pitch it

Did you just smoke it, or have you not smoked it since May? I bought a tin in April or May, tried it, let it sit until September, and found it better when I came back to it. That being said, I did like it when I first tried it. Might be worth giving it another go if it's been a while.

I had trouble with the Latakia when I first tried. it. Came back to it a few months later and enjoyed it. Don't know if it's my changing tastes or the tobacco that's mellowed. So, my advice is to put it away for a few months and try it later.

+1 to the comments about letting it age and just setting it aside. You never know how your palate will change as time goes by. Don't pitch it. Worst case, try and force it on a friend! :tongue_sm (in real life, not here of course)

If you're into aromatics, check out Just for Him's Shortcut to Mushrooms. It's great combination of Black Cavendish and Latakia. The Latakia isn't, to me at least, nearly as pronounced as Frog Morton. It's an aromatic that many English lovers really enjoy and an English that a lot of aromatic lovers use an intro to English blends.

Latakia is a bit of an acquired taste.

At first when you smoke it, the smoky flavor will overwhelm all other flavors. After you have smoked a few bowls of it, you will likely be able to taste the other flavors hiding behind the Latakia.

My first experience with Lakakia was about 7 months ago, I had been a pipe smoker for about 3 months. The first Lakakia blend I had, was the much beloved (raved about, highly sought) Penzance. I thought it was horrifically disgusting, and promptly traded the sample I had.

Without knowing much about tobacco, I purchased Frog Morton on the Bayou, and Dunhill Early Morning Pipe. I was quite surprised, that they had the same smoky flavor!!

I have now been pipe smoking for 11 months, and I still am not fully in love with heavy Latakia blends; I can smoke them, but I am not really wowed by them. Most recently I finished a tin of Dunhill My Mixture 965, which for my liking has way too much Latakia, while Early Morning Pipe has just enough: not so much as to be overpowering; more of a condiment.

Nothing wrong with cellaring a tobacco you don't care for at the moment and it certainly a better option than throwing away a tobacco that you spent good hard earned cash on.

I think that most of the FM line is pretty darn good, but I have found some tobaccos that have a heck of a following here to be unpalatable. I have come back to these several times and still don't care for them - so they are sealed with the FoodSaver and are waiting on a new home.

I won't pitch them even though I don't like them, I will just bide my time and PIF them when it is convenient

If it's not in a mason jar, jar it up and put it away. There may be a day when your palate changes, or you may want to burn it in a paper bag on an annoying neighbors front steps.

I have about 5 different tobaccos cellared that I don't care for at the moment. Maybe that will change in the future, but seeing as they will keep I can get rid of them if I don't like them.

I very much enjoy Frog Morton, which surprised me because I didn't think I would like Latakia. Oddly, I enjoy the Frog Morton better than Frog Morton on the Town and much, much better than Frog Morton in the Cellar.

About 6 years ago on the Speakeasy sub-forum we did a tobacco pass. I wonder if there's anyone with enough time on their hands to organize such a thing again? I, sadly, do not. It was a fantastic opportunity to sample literally dozens of different tobaccos. I learned a great deal about what I like and don't like from that box of wonder. It was a lot of work, though, for the organizer, and I seriously doubt anyone would like to take such an undertaking up again.

Sadly, no. With the restrictions on the trading and gifting of tobacco software here since then, this simply isn't possible. Secret Santa is as close as we can get.

Secret Santa  Super stoked for this.
Aside that check around, certain sites will offer samples (GQ Tobaccos here in the UK does samples of 10grams).
