frock coats

i've taken a shine to this particular coat and like the way it looks with a suit. are there any decent stores that carry this style of coat (brick/mortar or online)? although, I like this style I don't want to look like i'm some history buff re-enacting civil war era clothing. I found a site called Gentleman's Emporium and though they do carry frock coats I can't tell if they're a genuine haberdashery of vintage 19th century style clothing or if they're a costume shop.

don't worry if you look like a history buff. that is a nice coat. looking different is a good thing. full speed ahead.:thumbup1:

I agree that it's a very nice coat.

I wasn't able to find anything quite like that, but don't be afraid of checking out gothy shops online. A fairly high percentage of them have mens sections that lean towards Edwardian and Victorian sensibilities.

I have a rain coat of about the cut of a frock coat, and I really like it. That said, the true frock coat would take the place of a suit jacket, not a rain coat or overcoat, and would need to be worn with a waist coat. Wearing the true frock coat with striped trousers etc. would get you noticed. I leave it to your decision if that is a good thing.

For a rain coat or car coat, it is a nice cut.

haha. your username made me chuckle. the funny thing is, I got interested in frock coats because i'm currently reading the A. Conan Doyle illustrated series of Sherlock Holmes stories and quite a few of the drawings depict characters in frock coats

They are commonly worn by in Hasidic (ultra-orthodox) Jews and sold in many stores in their neighborhoods - Brooklyn, NY or LA come to mind - I see them all over NYC. Perhaps they are sold online: Google around for Hasidic clothing....
