Friodur 17- Thoughts?

I love the 17, I have two. Great edges and nice flexible hollow grinds. With the blade width the spines are quite thick to make an appropriate angle, so they have a nice weight as well.

Here is a picture of my three 7/8 Friodurs. The one with the Friodur scales is stamped 17 1/2 and is a fine shaver. The other two have no numbers stamped on their tang or shank. The middle razor with the G10 scales is old blood thirsty.

I recently got a carbon steel, full hollow J.A. Henckels 17, and a stainless, half hollow Friodur 17. The shapes of both blades are similar to the 14. Very happy with both. See:

An old 1820s (G.R. stamped) razor with well-worn (appear to original) dark honey horn scales. Appears to have been reground, but still honed and shaved well. Remnants of "...shave well" And someone has scratched their name into the one scale: Never seen an "S. Crookes" stamped blade...

I just realized that the 14 in your earlier post, @Steve56, is a Friodur 14. I had no idea that Henckels ever made a stainless 14. You learn something new every day!

Oh yes, they made them. The 14s and 17s are fairly uncommon compared to the other models, but they do pop up from time to time.
