I hope this posts finds everyone well this evening. The holiday season is rapidly approaching us, and there is a cooling brisk in the air. I decided for this week's shaving theme would be rather reflective. The theme of the week is "Second Chances." Many of us have come across that product that receives rave reviews, but for whatever reason did not cut the mustard in our rotation. I encourage you all to give that product(s) a second chance and welcome them back in the fold, at least for a week.

I have never had decent shaves with Mitchell's Wool Fat. It does not provide thick, luxurious, moisturizing shaves that people describe. It does have one sexy soap dish though, which is why I keep it around. I have also been having some issues with this Damascus Livi. I think I finally have an edge on the blade that is treating me right. Movember has been quite an issue, shaving in places that I do not normally shave. My lower lip/chin area has taken quite the beating. All this is for a good cause and I whole heartedly recommend that if you have some spare dollars to donate towards the team.

So without further ramblings on my part let the fun begin....

I gave the famed "Veg" a second chance after a suboptimal first experience.
I splashed generous amounts, and experienced the true gifts of the Veg!

Monday 12 November 2012

Pre-shave: Brush soaked in warm water, face & neck soaked in warm towel for 5 minutes, and then washed with warm water for an additional 2-3 minutes
Razor: Edwin Jagger DE89 Barley Chrome
Blade: Gillette 7'O Clock SharpEdge yellow packs from Russia (2nd shave)
Brush: Frank shaving finest custom brush
Cream: Biotique Bio Palmyra shaving cream
Lathering On: Face
Post Shave: Cold water rinse, alum block, witch hazel & rose water toner
Aftershave: Biotique Biograss aftershave gel

Shaving Outcome: DFS with two nicks in the usual spots. The DE89 got a second chance today since I have been shaving with a Merkur 1904 open comb for the past month or so. Thanks to sloppy technique and bad angles, my face has been majorly irritated so I decided to switch back to the milder DE89 for today's shave

Delorme Charleston | Vulfix Lime | Semogue Boar | AdP Balsam ASB | Tauer Vetiver Dance

Most of these are products that have never really clicked for me. No matter how many times I try the boars, I just still prefer a badger. The Vulfix cream, while easy to lather, just doesn't do much for me in the protection department, and the Delorme is smooth, but I just don't go for the smaller blades. Despite the kit being less than optimal for me, I was BBS in two passes. Of course, my face doesn't feel as nice as normal because of the choices I made, but it's proof that with good technique, you can get a decent shave with any operable gear in your bag!

Brush: Simfix Grosvenor 2 Band

Today, an herbal shave!

Pre Veleiro soap + Musgo Real classic shaving cream + Vulfix 2234 + Gillette Super Adjustable with Gillette Platinum + Herbíssimo balm

Today I have tested a facelathering technique with this cream, which is a bit problematic using in a bowl: put an almond in the top of a wet but well drained brush, then facelather with it adding from time to time some water as needed. Brilliant!

And this spanish balm I think is the most close in scent to this cream (much more than Musgo real after shaves) and is really cheap!

Cheers!

Shave of the Day (SOTD) Menthol/Merkur Monday November 12, 2012
proxy.php

  • Prep: Brush soaking in ice water, face washed with Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish Cleanser, luke warm shower
  • Razor: Merkur 41R 1904 Open Comb mounted to Alabastron Tortoise Handle
  • Blade: Personna Med Prep (3)
  • Brush: Semogue 820 Boar
  • Soap: Proraso Menthol and Eucalyptus (New Formula)
  • Cream: Lea Mentholated
  • AS: Aqua Velva Classic Ice Blue
  • Post: Cold Water Rinse, Double Splash of Aftershave
The Personna Med prep blade still provided an excellent shave on it's third day. Usually on "Merkur Monday" I like using my Progress, but my skin was still sensitive from the reaction to the soap from yesterday's shave. The Merkur 41R always provides an efficient and mild shave, especially when paired to a nice sharp blade.

Built an Überlather of Proraso and Lea Mentholated today, the combination of the two really produces a good lather. I need to try adding some M-Bomb or menthol crystals to try to get the freeze level that I am looking for, as nothing is as cold as I would like.

Aqua Velva is always a nice way to end an shave, as I just love it.
