What's new

Frederic Malle Store

What's up guys?

I just took a lovely stroll on Madison (it's a few ave up from my streets) and hit up Zitmoer's (a really old school NY pharmacy that carries, Trumper, Molton Brown, Annick Goutal etc) and Laduree from killer macaroons (chestnut, salted caramel and apple). I also hit up Creed and Frederic Malle as pay day is coming up Tuesday and it's time for my next bi-monthly bottle. At first I was thinking about my first Creed full bottle, but after talking with the rather snobby salesman there, versus the two lovely women at Malle it's clear where my heart is at. At Malle they have beautiful plush leather chairs where you sit and relax while they explain the scents and the items that compose them. You can also step into these tubes so you can experience what people will smell while you have the fragrance on. That's real class right there. And because of that, it looks like Geranium Pour Monsieur will me the next addition to my rapidly growing scent library.

If you like Guerlain go to Bergdorf. They have all the exclusives. I think it's in the women's section/building, not the men's store.

I'll be in NYC next month. I won't have much time on my hands, but I'll step into Malle if I get the chance. Sounds like a great experience.

If. Any of you guys coming (that doesn't sound right) want to sort of give you a list of spots to go and list which places are near each other I'd be more than happy to I've got a lot of love for the people who make this board go round.

Daverasi, Labo is a cool store but they're pretty uptight in there. Aedes is awesome and Min is my spot. I was one of the first customers in there and the owner, who is such a rad guy, gave me a sample of every a trumper cream. It's like Sephora for people who know what they're doing. Try anything you please and no pressure from the staff (well that part is unlike sephora). Don't forget Dyptique J Malone and Bond 9 as well, all cool as well.

Schad, right on the money with Bergsdorf, great niche stuff as well.

Tim, the experience there is second to none. No BS. And they have sweetest ladies in the world work there.

I actually really like Frederic Malle and don't really like Creed but honestly, bad sales people shouldn't be the reason you don't indulge in a brand.

I own Creeds and Frederic Malle, from Malle I own Geranium Pour Monsiour and Bois D'Orage. Both are fantastic, you will love Geranium on those hot days, cools the skin off like nothing else I've ever worn.

Based on the mention in this thread, I wore my decant of Geranium Pour Monsieur today. At first wearing months ago, I wrote this off as a listerine scent. Wearing it today, I like the way it dries down. A refreshing scent and I'm glad I gave it another chance.

it's not the sole reason, but it sort of reafirmmed my preception of the brand. I realize a lot of people on here love Creed. And there are some Creed scents that I find to be good, but the Malle blows it away in my opinion. I'm stunned that Creed can get away with prices that they charge with Malle a few blocks away. Most Creed scents in my opinion are one note clunkers. I love the Virgin Island water, but I have a coconut and lime body splash from Bath and Body works that smells almost identical, at not even a tenth of the price. I realize the ingredients that Creed uses are higher quality and the sillage is better but still......In my mind Malle is an a completely different league and the retail experience just further backed that up. I think Creed scents are for mostly (and don't go nuts, because remember I said mostly) for people who want a highend fragrance but are too lazy to dig a little deeper into the esoterics of Lutens, Amouage, MDCI, the real Chanels, Labo, MPG, etc.

And plesse understand if you like Creed, I'm not taking a shot at you, please remember that. You like what you like and everyone is different, but I work in a marketing firm across the street from Bloomie's and half the guys there wear Creed but couldn't name another niche scent if their lives depended on it. When you encounter people who wear Penhaligon's or Chezch and Speake, Or Malle or Diptyque, they tend to be more knowledgeable about fragrances in general. I know the owners of two well know boutique fragrance shops in NYC (both mentioned in this thread) who both said that they wouldn't carry Creed if their lives depended on it because they really don't want to service the bridge and tunnel crowd, what else can you say?

In the future I probably will purchase either Aventus or Mountain Water, but when I do, I'll do so at Neiman.

Did you try Malle's Bigarade Concentree? Great refreshing, bitter citrus.

Do you actually stand in those tubes at the Malle store or just stick your head in there? (I didn't try it; I was afraid of getting beamed up.)

I didn't try that one, but I will.

Lol, no you don't stand in them, you stick your head in while they ran a fan that blows the fragrance mist around in a very gentle manner.

Sounds like a gimmick by Malle. I do like Malle though. They have this sample kit if each fragrance in small sprays that you can buy. Not sure how much it costs.

Good customer service matters.

The last time I was in NYC I wasn't into fragrances. I cannot wait to visit again and experience Malle, Le Labo, Aedes and MIN.

In NYC you have to check out Pasteur Pharmacy (2 locations). They now carry Knize (Knize Ten, Knize Sec & Knize Two), Floris, Penhaligons, a full line of Musgo Real (including bath soaps). They already have Trumper & Truefitt & Hill (their COMPLETE lines including bath soaps, talcum, hair tonic etc), Castle Forbes, Prorasso, DB Harris, Kent brushes, Simpsons brushes and too many other products to mention.
Their line is more complete than any shaving web site I've ever seen. Their Upper East Side location is also within walking distance of Creed Boutique and Bloomingdales.
My favorite dept. store for fragrances is Saks. (You don't see it referred to as Saks 5th Ave. here, it's Saks & Co.)

Where in NYC are you located? We've probably bumped into each other at Pasteur's more than once lol.....Don't forget that they now have testers of every bottle of Czech and Speak's line on the shelf.

Aventus is an excellent fragrance (albeit my collection does not hold a candle to yours) it definitely is the most well blended and least synthetic smelling cologne I own. I want to start expanding my Creed collection and have it narrowed down to GIT, OV, Silver Mountain Water or Himalaya, and given the prices of Creed I need to narrow it down considerably more.

If they don't want to service the bridge and tunnel crowd, I suspect they would not give us hayseed midwesterners the time of day :biggrin1:! Nonetheless I'll have to give em a try next time I'm in NYC and work that old Midwest charm! Don't know much about Malle but I'm starting to learn :001_cool:

Creed does not work on me. I do like the Malle store (they also have a section in Barney's).

So, how long was the line at Laduree?
