Hi, People:
I just received a heavy-handle Tech from a Buy-Now Ebay purchase that I went for because it was made in 1953, same year I was. The cap showed in the photo to be completely worn to the brass, which I thought looked fine, and the handle and guard were still brightly chrome plated.
Well, the handle is shiny chrome, and a bit of wear on the edges of the blade guard matches the cap. But I swear that the neck, while polished and unworn, is GOLD. Or sure looks like it compared to the handle, which is that heavy etched type with ridges cut lengthwise that you see a lot on Ebay.
I know all about "parts guns", but is it possible that there's a legit reason for the color difference? Or are people really putting razors together from shiny parts? Wouldn't necks be specific to the handle style? Seems like it would be going to a lot of trouble to collect the parts for a $19.99 sale. Dealer said "it came that way" when I asked about the brassy cap. He'd say the same about the neck, which didn't look gold in the photo.
Any thoughts? Or similar experiences? It's something I wouldn't think to ask a seller about.
Thanks.
