Frank brushes state of the union

I have read a lot about the evolution of Frank brushes- from the early years during which they were a great value through the current years in which the quality has improved, but the price, compared to other vendors, is closer to market. I'd like to try some Frank brushes and am open to type-best badger, finest badger, silver tip or synthetic. Considering the current prices, which of the Frank brushes represent the best values compared to the competition?

Thanks!

I just purchased a "defective" handle brush off eBay. I got a 24mm manchurian for 24$ shipped, which I think is a great value.
The brush itself is pretty perfect, no shedding, seems to be a nice quality and the price was great.

I think the synthetics are generally a good buy. The newest(gen 4?) chubby style is a bit more pricey than the others, but very nice if you want a big soft synthetic.

The Frank synthetics on eBay that are not the new gen pur tech range from $10- $20(3rd gen?). That seems to be a good price point compared to the pur tech prices. Are the 4th gen pur techs worth the price difference, or are the 3rd gen the better value?

Yes, they are worth the price difference. Especially the 24 mm Pur-Tech if you can get has been a good value for that level of fiber.

If I may ask, what was the problem with the handle and would you consider it serious? Thanks.

A little off topic but I now have 5 FS brushes and pleased with them all. 2 have defective handles and they both have a single small hair line crack (to be fair not sure how deep the crack goes) "please no custom title for that phrase". Anyway no issuse from defects so far. I only have a Simpson in BB to compare them to and they are much courser for want of a better word. The handles are very nice IMO. For as little as $10 shipped no complaints from me.
