Found in antique shop today

Ok Gents,

Help me out here please. I've been reading threads about how single edge shaving is better than double edge shaving. So I went to a antique shop today on a whim and purchased a single edge razor with a short handle. When I opened it the blade said ever ready and the blade bed said ever ready. BRKLN NY USA. I'm wondering how good this razor is and what would be good single edge blades to use in it? I don't think I want to use the blade that it came with.

I did some research and saw a similar razor on this site. It's a 1924 Ever-Ready shovel head. It's either silver or nickel. How should I clean it?

Oh that razor?

It is fantastic. You don't even need to put a blade in it to get BBS.

Pick up some SE blades in the shaving section of your local CVS.
+1 on this ... you may have to hunt through a couple of drugstores, but make sure you use an SE blade that is designed for shaving.

You can get utility blades just about anywhere that will fit in the razor, but these are designed for cutting boxes or scraping paint. Try and shave with it and you'll tear your face to shreds.

Interesting question (and congrats on the 1924. I shaved with one this morning and my face feels great!). Using something like a Weber handle would be fun for a trial, but that would require a middle part with two different dimensions of screws going down the handle and up the shovel.

great idea and probably an descent combo

Yes, but having too many thumbs and no workshop I'll have to see what someone more mechanically skilled comes up with.
