Another afternoon in the antique shops netted a nice find. I picked up this Tuckaway set today. I see razors in mismatched cases all the time, and usually the lining in the case is rotted or moldy. Today I found this complete set. The razor, case, and blade case all match. Best of all, the razor is in pretty good shape. The plating is mostly intact. There is some plating wear on the bottom of the handle, but surprisingly the head's plating is almost completely intact.
The case is a little worse for wear. The plating is badly worn on the bottom, but the lining is nice a clean and the hinge and the clasp work great.
I have the linings out of the case right now because someone had re-installed the linings into the case incorrectly. They had the tray that holds the razor and blade case mounted to the lid of the case instead of the bottom of the case. I popped the trays out, but I've got to clean some globs of glue off the lid before I remount the trays correctly. I've set them back in the case for the first pic, but I'll get around to re-mounting them later. I also want to take out a minor dent in the lid that's hard to see in the pic but will be easier to fix with the top tray out of the case.
There is no serial number or date code stamp. Near as I can figure, this is a 1922. Anyone have any better idea about the date?
This might be my new travel razor.
(The razor is a lot prettier in person than in these pictures. For some reason, I just can't get good lighting tonight. Sorry guys.)
