Found a goat hair shaving brush, anyone know anything about these?

I was browsing A local department store last night and came across A Goat bristle shaving brush, has anyone ever used one of these or know anything about them? it felt very much like silvertip, it was suprisingly soft with a good backbone aswell, I can't find any info online and what i do find is very limited and quickly turns to makeup brushes lol.

You sure it wasn't a makeup brush then?
I have never heard of a goat hair shaving brush, sorry, but maybe somebody else has.

it was certainly a shaving brush, i pulled it out of the package, it was really soft like a makeup brush but it had a super tight knot, i could see it was stiff enough,
yet super soft tips

Wish I could help you out, the only thing I find online is a miniature travelling brush made of goat hair (so I guess they exist). Good luck.

thanks for taking the time to look at the thread and trying to help, hopefully other members might have some info on this for us. for $18 i might just have to be the test subject.

I too have never heard of a goat hair shaving brush. But if it was indeed such a brush, and it seemed nice to you, is there any reason for not getting it?

There's been a recent thread about Eco brushes that led to some discussion of goat hair brushes. The cosmetic brushes seem to work well for creating a good shaving lather, and they are amazingly soft. Don't know if there are any shaving specific variants, but would love to check out any links you can share.

I will post links as I come across them, the japanese seem to use goat blended with horse in some of their shaving brushes.

Does the brush have a brand name? Also, where did you come across the goat/horse blend info regarding Japanese brushes. I'm curious now. I've been considering a horse hair brush, and a goat/horse hybrid sounds interesting. I'll try to do some searching on my own, but let us know what you come up with. Either way, cool find!

I am not sure of the brand, just made a mental note of the packaging thinking it would be an easy thing to find online, boy was I wrong, im gonna pick it up tonight for $18 why the heck not eh.

I think the Japanese one you linked to is probably Tanuki, rather than raccoon. It's a common translation error. But anything is possible.

went to get the thing, after looking and tugging at it I realized it was a very poorly made brush, seems like a cheap chinese makeup brush stuffed into a really cool handle, but not $18 cool. for 5 bucks maybe but not anything more.

The guy in your link said he has a thing for goats.. said he likes the smell of them. I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation here.. context and all. Once had goat Roti.. kinda bland. Ever had goat roti...
