Forgotten Brands

It seems that at one time or another, certain brands or products received a lot of attention -- then you don't hear about them anymore. I am not suggesting that they are inferior products. But what happened to :

- Penhaligon creams and soaps
- Truefitt and Hill cream/soap
- Erasmic cream/soap
- Vulfix brushes
- Savile Row brushes
- Bluebird blades

I see them on the shelves at Pasteur and listed online with various vendors but hardly anyone seems to comment. What other brands do you see fading into oblivion?

Honestly, the only thing from your list that I haven't heard about recently are bluebird blades. Maybe not as much as before, but they are certainly not forgotten. I think it is just the way things work around here. There's always a new "flavor of the week". A couple people talk about a product, and hype it up, then a few people who never heard if it decide to try it, then they post rave reviews and it turns into the hottest product ever. Then two weeks later the same thing happens to another product.

If products are good enough then usually the buzz keeps going on a slower but constant basis. Like you always here about mama bear and queen Charlotte soaps. Then there was a huge buzz about mystic water and mikes, and they were the "it" products for a while. The hype has died down a bit, but they are still talked about and you can almost always find an active thread about any of the above.

What I do think is unfortunate, is some of our artisan soapers who get lost in the shuffle. They make quality products that were once very popular, but now rarely get talked about, despite still being used by lots of people. Saint Charles Shave falls into this category a little bit, but the buzz does return every so often. One of my favorite soaps that is a prime example of this is Honey Bee Soaps. Amazing lather and a great soap. She's one of B&B's original artisan soap makers (since 2006) and one of the "Sues" (Saint Sue, Mama Bear Sue, Honeybee Sue, and Lil Suz), yet how many new members have even heard of Honeybee Soaps? I always feel bad for our artisan soapers when their products are not discussed.

Anyway, product pupularity ebbs and flows. With a constant influx of new members it is just the way it works.

Is there a list of these B&B artisan soap makers? This is pretty interesting. Not all vendors seem to have entered the vendor hall of fame. Is there a list anywhere of each vendor and their website?

Exactly what I was looking for. Too bad there's no way to categorize which are the "best performers." lol

Time to get started on how many variations of myy $100 shopping list I can make. :) I added all the Honeybee EO soaps to the cart and it came out to $169.50, but it would actually be $153.82 because the site says they offer free shipping on orders over $100.
