For those that find Feather blade unable to do its job

Well, I made like 3 tests so far, and all of them with the same result. It seems that no matter how much I try, I got zones of my face where I simply can't cut hair with a feather blade.
Under my lower lip and under my chin a bit on the right is where those problem zones are. I tried something stupid last shave, in order to find out if I really can or can't cut it, as I still can't believe this to be happening. So here is what I did. I stretched the skin and made sure that those hairs are totally out from under skin and ready to be cut, as I tested it with my fingers, in order to make sure that I got perfect grip to them. But guess what. The blade was gliding over them without cutting. I started to do more pressure and more, until instead of cutting the hair, I obviously cut my skin. No matter how I tried to attack this patch of hair, as I tried every angle possible, it still didn't want to cut properly. I was able though to clean it a bit after like 20+ buffings, though the damage has been done but no matter what other people might say, I think it was worth that I managed to prove myself that I was correct in my statement that I can't cut that those patches of hair with a feather blade. And yes, those patches of hair feel more sandpaper then the rest of my face, and more wiry.

My general assumption is that feather is sharpened at a wider angle making it possible to have such a sharp edge, but this comes at a price, and that is the fact that when you try to cut really wiry hair, you will feel like trying to cut bread with a too thick knife, resulting in a very uncomfortable cut, which is exactly the opposite of smooth. Also, I assume that this sharp edge of feather is also a reason for having such a low coating on them, making them unusable after first shave. At least for me.

Now the purpose of this thread is to find if there are other people that tested Feather blade and can't use it due to not being able to cut hair properly and end up creating a blood bath trying. Also, I would like to hear from those what they think is the reason that the sharpest blade in the world is just not able to cut their beard. And finally, what are those people favorite blades, as I believe that if feather can't cut the hair then their favorite blades will do it in a comfortable way, giving me ideas about what other blades to try.

Long story short, if you got same problem as me with Feathers, what you think causes it, and what blades you love.

I found them to be sharp and rough. I didn't see anything special with this blade compared to others. I think there is a cult following but, for me, there are other blades out there that perform much better than the Feathers.

A scholarly observation, friend.

This is all about physics. The angles, the sharpness of blades, razor pressure, growth patterns of facial hair; the lot. Feathers are simply not an "everyman" blade. They're "unforgiving". And they have a shorter life than many other blades out there.

Because of the hype associated with Feather we may expect things to turn out fine when we use them. And we're upset when it turns out to be not so.

For me, a blade that works is worth the price I pay. An overpriced blade like Feather is just not for me. It doesn't deliver what I get from a US $0.07 Shark. Kai is the "better Feather" for me.

Yes, I am in the same boat, but I can't blame Feather for not being good for me.
What I do believe though is that if I would find some people that have the same problem as me with feathers, the chances are that I might like very much the blades that those people love. I tested quite a few blades, and still got some incoming, and I won't stop until I test every blade out there that has a chance to be someone's best.

So far, my very best blades are: Personna Lab/Med, Super Iridium, Gillette Blacks, and on second place I can put Perma-sharps, Astra SP, Astra SS and SuperMax Titanium.
As I said, I am not complaining, I just try to find a "pattern" here about what people with wiry hair and sensitive skin prefer.

I have tried Feather a number of times. I have no problems shaving with them other than the fact that after two shaves the blades get too dull for me. I have found that the Personna Med and Labs, the Personna Reds, and the Lord blades suit me better.

Which of the Lords you find better for you?

And Doc Bugg, what "Supersharp" blades you mean?

I like the Lord Stainless Steel, Super Chrome., and Platinum - and honestly can't tell much of a difference between any of them.

So far I've found this to be a problem with all blades around my chin area, including feather. It's the densest and roughest area for beard growth. I'll have to do some more experimenting and see if a particular blade performs better. I sort of just wrote off all other blades after using feathers although I do remember having a high opinion of the personna lab blues.

As always, YMMV.

How different our reactions are! For me Feathers are worth it. Smooth shaves from the first stroke, seven shaves out of each blade, that's 0.04 euro cents per shave... Every face is a world!!

If Feathers were $8.79 for 100, they wouldn't get anywhere near the attention.

YMMV, DLTDHYWTGLSY, BLBBLB, etc.

Feathers are one of my favorites, 6-7 shaves easily. Iridiums and Med's are also very good.

Feather Hi-stainless are one of my favourite blades as well. Together with my razors and proper technique they provide me with excellent three, four shaves. I could get five or six shaves out of it.
I find it hard to believe a blade would have any discerning power over what hair would cut or not. Pulling? That's a different story.

I don't like to say it but YMMV.

Cerbule, the areas you mentioned are difficult for me too but I manage to shave them using tricks. Push lower lip with tongue or puff air or other trick to flatten or change the shape. The goatee area needs more attention since has no flat areas so XTG as first pass will work well.

Hope this helps.

I use my Feathers for 2 shaves Why? Because it works for me. I used one today in an Aristocrat! wowee! After 2 they stop singing to me. My go to is Crystal. Then Bolzano.Real good prep, great lather, good shaver, sharp(they all are)blade = dfs to me . I love to listen to a Feather sing!

I have a similar issue with Feather. They cut very smoothly on most of my face, but on the densest and thickest areas of beard growth they tug and pull and tend to nick me. I don't know what the cause could be, they certainly seem to be as sharp as many say they are based on how they perform on the rest of the shave. For me Polsilvers, Gillette 7 o'clocks and Silver Blues are the most reliable.

Finally someone confirming my experience, and yes, your favorite blades are also on my favorite list. Just want to try some more before buying in bulk.

And no, I was not able to reduce hair to BBS under my lower lip with something ridiculous like 20+ buffs and 5+ lather reapplied, and stretching/muscle positioning to make sure hair is perfectly exposed. I also nicked myself 3 times in that place, and I am 100% sure now that is something about the blade, and not something I did wrong.

But since I can't find anyone that can do an "edge angle" check on blades with a very powerful microscope, I will have to relay on trying the favorite blades of people that have similar problem with mine.

Perhaps during your exploration of angles you rolled the edge. I believe that steep angles can wreck any blade, and Feathers seem to be among the more easily blunted.
