I've seen a lot of those photos. I always wonder if they are real or just staged for the camera. Having honed a good number of shave ready edges, it would seem counter intuitive to put one on an axe, even a racing axe. First cut, edge destroyed. To hone an edge on an axe that would be durable enough to last a competition, the angle would not be acute enough to shave a face. Actually, an axe blade is too thick to ever get that sort of edge geometry.

Or am I just way over thinking the whole thing?

It's definitely real, YouTube it, there are some people doing it.

Why they would put such an edge on the axe, I don't know?

Review:
The new razor seemed a bit heavy on the hand, certainly heavier than the bakelites. Probably not as heavy as the ultra-heavy Parkers. The center of gravity was way too close to the head for my taste. Aggressiveness is a 10 for sure. Blade is sharp, but doesn't beat a Feather. Still better than the other Axe Shick razors.
