What's new

For the Barber Shop owners out there:

Quick question for the barber shop owners out there:
I guess its a two part question.
Question A) Do you carry retail shaving products in your shop and if so:
B)Where do you purchase your products, and what seems to generally be a solid seller?
Ive searched for wholesale barber supplies and shaving supplies but haven't found any true wholesale websites.
I am relatively new to the barber world. My mother has been a barber/hairdresser for the last 40 years and I am now following in her footsteps. Because of my interest, she has decided its about time to start a family barber shop and has left me in control of finding the sources for product retail. I have run a small internet retail business before but that product was much easier found wholesale than shaving and barber supplies seem to be. Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated on this subject. Thanks for all the suggestions you all have given me in the past!

I don't own a barbershop, but have you considered contacting the companies themselves and seeing who reps in your area? Every company that has ever sold something has a sales department that at least manages the regional reps (or possibly provides direct sales), so they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Presumably, not all respondents on an International Forum will be competing barbers from Thousand Oaks California . . .:001_rolle

If there are competing barbers from his town, though, they should definitely opt-out of helping him . . .

Where I live there is a barber supply company. They have a small storefront and a couple salespeople who drive vans all over northern Indiana, stopping at barber shops from southern Michigan, to Indy and Ohio to Chicago.

The vans actually have more stuff in them than the storefront.

My dad was a barber in the 50's and 60's and he had a barber supply guy stop by his shop once or twice a month, whenever he was coming through the area.
In fact, my dad ordered a new Koken President chair from the guy.

I'd say, find the barber supply in your area (may be coming from out of town), if there is any. It would be easier than contacting all the product mfgs individually, hoping to get a great wholesale price, which you may not get (volume). Ask some of the other barbers in your area who their barber supply company is. They'll probably tell you.

I love reading barber threads. My husband is interested in doing this...we're just not in a finanicial position to do it right now.

Have you Googled "Southern California barber supply"? Check out www.bowmanbeauty.com they are in NC but they have EVERYTHING a barber shop would need and at (seemingly) great prices. They may not be the best place to buy from for you because of the distance/shipping but you could at least get an idea.

I would have to imagine that a manufacturer isn't going to sell direct to a shop. Otherwise, what would be the point of having barber supply stores that carry all of those products?

Good luck!!

Haha thank you Judge, my thoughts exactly. There are only maybe 2 or 3 other barber shops in town (I've stopped by most of them, none of them even sell products and if they do, they sure as hell don't display them), plus none of these barbers offer straight razor shaves anymore anyway, and considering i would like to carry shaving supplies I don't think ill be stepping on toes. Thanks for the input everyone! As always, the community support and information is always appreciated. Happy holidays everyone.

try contacting the manufacturer. They will sometimes sell direct wholesale, but if it is a large manufacturer you will have to buy in large bulk. Otherwise ask them if they have a local distributor you can purchase from.

BTW, the previous comment of "Does McDonald's tell Burger King where they get their beef" made no sense to me. Afterall, we are all on this forum to share information and ideas.
