Everytime I go into Taylors I have a sniff, and evrytime it gets put back on the shelf in favour of another scented cream.

Am I too young to appreciate its scent? (I'm 26 btw) When I hit 30 will the first thing I do, to be buy a stack of these creams :wink2:

So, is it just me or are there others too?

On a whim, last winter, I bought a Taylor's Sandalwood shave stick. I thought the scent was nice for the cooler weather and it worked well for me. I liked it enough to eventually purchase one of the tubs in question and the AS splash. I didn't use it over the spring and summer, but it's back in the rotation since the temps have been dropping a bit. And in my case, it's wife-approved.

BTW, I've booked a tour of England and London for June, 2010. I plan to spend a few extra days in London in order for a pilgrimage to Trumpers, Taylor's, and T & F, and probably every corner shop in each village we lodge in.

I've researched the assorted threads here in B&B regarding shopping in London (lots of good advice). I now have an itinerary of sorts, but any other recommendations you may have are welcome.

I'm also looking for a tweed jacket, flat cap, cardigan sweater, shirts, shoes, etc., etc.

When I was a kid (I am now 55) my aunt always burnt Sandalwood candles and used only Sandalwood soap and her scents always had a bit of it, too - as a kid, I did not like this smell at all. But now, I love it!! Have several Sandalwood creams (including the TOBS), after shaves and fragrances. That is a prime example how your likings change over time. Go for it!

I am 41 years old
I had the pleasure of smelling the Taylor's Sandalwood last week and the scent blew me away. And I am not a sandalwood scent fan either.
I almost bought it in favor of the Mr.Taylors that I was actually there to buy
( I heard Mr. Taylor is actually 26 years old too).

I will probably end up purchasing the TOBS Sandalwood now anyways. Just means I have to make a trip back.

Side note: TOBS Jermyn St shave cream smells awesome too

I only wish I was in my 20's.....or 30's for that matter! I pretty much have Sandalwood everything..Creams, soaps, ASB's....It is my all time favorite. But you need to follow your nose...If you have some and don't use it....send me a PM...I will take sandalwood anything of your hands!

I might have to try this one out. I picked up the Trumper Sandlewood and returned it the next day after one shave. The scent changed as soon as water and brush was added to the mix and I didn't like it at all.

Not a massive fan of Sandalwood although Edwin Jagger Sandalwood AS balm is nice. If you think TOBS Sandalwood is bad, try Eton College!

It may be an age thing. I'm 20 and have yet to find a Sandalwood I like, in my opinion it's the quint essential "old man" scent.

I don't mean any offense to the many many sandal-fans out there!

Every sandlewood product I've used has a different scent. On another board, I once read that nothing screams "Get off my lawn" like Taylor sandlewood cream so I guess it is an older person's scent. I like it but after a while the scent becomes a bit much for me and even though I'm 62 I have to back off on it for a while. When I ran out of Taylor, I replaced it with Salter's sandlewood which is an entirely different scent.

I haven't used my Sandalwood cream for a while but having a quick sniff of it, I would definitely say I like it (I'm 30). Doesn't make me think of "old man" at all and it's not especially strong either. Out of interest, what do you usually buy instead of the Sandalwood?

Oh, and I'm only slightly jealous you can smell the TOBS cream before you buy it!

I would substitute "mature" for "old" when describing a scent like sandalwood.
Trumper's is much more subdued than TOBS. I have a tub of T&H coming from B/S/T so there will be a third for the judging as well.
And, ...coming from the deep end of the age spectrum, when I read some folks post saying that they want to smell like a Baskin Robbins freezer case ...ROTFLMAO :lol::lol: . Man up or go metro!

Considering the crap that is marketed to and fawned over by the under 30 crowd, I will take "old man" any day.

I would rather smell old than be the equivalent of a James Dean cardboard cut-out with a pack of candy cigarettes rolled up in my t-shirt sleeve.

You never smelled the AOS sandalwood have you?

Hackett (branches in SLoane Square, Regent Street, Jermyn Street) for clothes, Cordings of Picadilly for shirts and caps, Bates on Jermyn Street for caps.

A walk down Jermyn Street should sort you out and lighten your wallet.

Sandalwood scents vary a lot between the products having that scent. You might like a different brand.
