Following the outline of Beard with Double Edge Safety Razor?

As I've stated before, I have a safety razor, but I've haven't used it yet being that I have to use up disposable razors I have. The question is, is it easy to follow the outline of your beard with a safety razor, because I usually have various facial hair styles, from Mutton Chops to this, whatever it's called

I think you can do it as long as you're careful. I always keep some type of facial hair, usually goatee/mousache or full beard. And I don't have any problems as long as I pay attention to what I'm doing.

I have had a beard for forty years it is not difficult if you take your time as the gent stated. It is more difficult using a twist to open double edge razor. A vintage Gillette Tech 3 piece razor is easier to navigate as it does not have a bulbous head. If you have not made a commitment to shaving with a double edge razor you might consider an injector razor. Maintaining hair lines with an injector razor is a piece of cake and they give a great shave too.

Since i started shaving the traditional way, i found that following the outline of my beard with a DE is rather easy. So far the easiest DE to use in that regard has been my travel tech. Like deoxy4 said, the almost flat head helps, and it's small enough that i can shave inside the chin area.

But, since i bought a Schick injector it's been incredibly easy to outline and shape my beard (even better then all the DE's i've tried).

Where did you purchase your Schick injector? Online or from a local store?

I agree it just takes some concentration. I had a little trouble at 1st because the Gillette Sensor I had been using was smaller, but it didn't take too long to get the hang of it. I'll also sometimes scrape some of the excess soap or cream away so I can see the line(s) better.

I always keep some form of facial hair, usually either a styled beard or a chin-strap (your pic)+goatee combo. Definitely easier with the 3 piece DE razors (I use a EJ DE89), and I wipe of the lather before I touch up my lines.

I have had some sort of beard most of my adult life. I find shaving around the beard the same with DE as it is with a cart. In fact, with the Fusion I'd sometimes use the single blade side for the fine tuning around the beard. The DE is a single blade, so there is really little difference, for me anyway.

I went from sporting a beard off and on for years and I got used to trimming it with both a beard trimmer and razor. When I switched to DE there was a little learning curve because of the larger razor head. But like anything else, it comes with time. Then I started to like shaving and a clean face so i haven't had a beard for a couple years.

I've found it easier to "edge" my beard with a SE razor such as a GEM, or an injector like the Schick G injector.

I've done it with my DE but it was just a little easier with an SE

I have basically always had a mustache (when I was younger) or a goatee so the learning curve wasn't an issue for me. I have recently found that the open comb razors do a better job along my goatee. They catch the errant stray hair and cut it without pulling. Seems to leave the rest of the goatee intact, without any work.

Basically with a little effort the first few times, it shouldn't be an issue for you.

I fall into this category as well. I have been using a Merkur 23c for shaping up my beard. Currently rocking chops connected to a tapered box beard and full mustache. I find it to be pretty easy. Most guys have eliminated their neck beards all the way, giving themselves a chin strap...I leave hair on my jaw and the Merkur takes away the rest just fine (using Astra platinums). I have seen some mustache razors around, with smallish razors (as far as I know only Merkur makes these). Has any one tried the mustache razor?

I regularly wear a 'tache and goatee and to be honest i find it easier on the whole to trim the edges with DE's than it ever was with carts.

Got squirrely this weekend and took everything off but the stache. Let's see how long I can keep this up. Surprising response from the gf....she actually digs it.

No--Hitler took that out of style. I went imperial for a couple days and now trimmed. Got a few nice compliments around the office. Lady still likes it too.
