Floris No. 89 Shave Cream

Does any B&B members use Floris shave creams? Which ones do you like?

I could not stand it any longer and bought that tube of Floris No. 89 that was on mark down at my local shave shop.

I used it today and all I can say is that I AM impressed. It is wonderfully smooth and silky. I should have used one of my bowl lathering brushes that I am more comfortable with than the Harvard H6 for the first use but even with a brush that barely fit into the scuttle I was able to whip enough later to shave and to see now NICE this cream is.

Mick, I have no experience with the shave cream version, but the No.89 hard shave soap I had was lovely: fantastic scent, nice thick lather and very good shave. Only the price...

The shave shop had many different scents of the Floris shaving soaps (in bowl and puck refills). Would you say it would be worth getting some at 30% off?

I am heading over to the post office in a little while and have to walk past the shave shop going both directions.

Which soap would you recommend or should I just go grab one of each kind (until I am broke) :001_smile

Mick, if you can have some good discount it's worth getting IMHO. The puck in wooden bowl I had was a gift from a great friend in the UK and I truly enjoyed it. When I finished the soap I didn't replace it because not only the soap was expensive, but shipping from England to Italy was also unexplainably high, hence I skipped. However, when I'll be visiting London again in the future, I'll certainly be getting some more. The best scents for me are the No.89 and the JF.

I recently got a tube of the Floris No. 89 cream as well and agree completely..... wonderful in both performance and scent. I actually do not care for the cologen as much, but mostly due to the drydown. I believe No. 89 is the only scent Floris currently offers in a cream. I may be wrong about that, but I'm pretty sure. I also got Elite, No. 89 and JF shave soaps in the wooden bowls when Floris had their Winter Sale this past winter. These soaps are highly underrated IMO..... probably due to the cost.... but they are all excellent performers and smell wonderful. My favorite soap scent is Elite. I'd agree that if you can get the soaps at a discount, that they are worth getting. They strike me as hard soaps that will last a very long time.... although I've only used each one of mine twice at the most..... so I'm only speculating on the lifespan of the soap. 30% off?..... grab one of each scent I say.

I just got back from my daily walk and stopped into the shave shop and got 1 soap in bowl of No 89 AND a refill puck of No. 89. One soap in a bowl of JF in a bowl and one refill puck of JF. Also picked up a tube of Truefitt & Hill Sandalwood cream for $12 (could not help myself at that price).

Still even with the hefty discount (they went to 40% this morning) I spent close to $150 on shave soaps... :yikes:

Now I have to go back and look for Elite shave soap. Thanks Ben...... NOT $smiley_ROFLMAO.gif

Marco, be aware that the Floris soap has recently been reformulated and isn't a patch on the original stuff.

I've always wanted to try the Floris 89 shaving cream.I was wondering if I could ask you a huge favour, could you list the ingredients in the shaving cream?I have looked everywhere for them on the internet and have never been able to find them.I am curious as the Floris website advertises the shaving cream as being soap free and better for sensitive skin which I have.

Dear Turtle,
Thank you so much for posting the ingredients.I really appreciate your taking the time to do that. The cream looks wonderful and I think that I will get a tube once my current cream runs out.

The No.89 soap Marco is referring to was in the old white packaging of which I have used two now, and both were superb performers. Can't comment on the newer packaged soaps, however, as to whether they are the same formulation or not. I have also used the No.89 cream and I have to say that as a soap user, I was mighty impressed.

David, if you get the newer No.89 shave soap, please post your thoughts and make a comparison with the previous version. That would be truly appreciated, my friend.

I've never used the #89 version of Floris shaving cream. Over the years I've gone through 2 tubes of the Santal cream. In my opinion its performance "on the face" was very, very good, on par with the various TOB, Trumper, and Harris shave creams which I normally use. I like and wear the Santal cologne and found that the shaving cream matches the cologne scent very closely. I no longer use the shaving cream simply because of its price in the US. At current prices it's simply not good enough when compared to other very good creams at lower prices.

From the Floris line, I only have the JF cream, and like it a lot. Performance is fine, the scent is very good. Interested to hear about Floris soaps. Santal is another scent I like, wouldn't mind picking up a soap in that scent.

Unfortunately, Floris do not make a Santal scented soap. Only available in the AS and EdT.

The floris scents are fantastic. I'm a big fan of their colognes.

My only local retailer for them unfortunately only stocks the soap in some kind of ridiculous 1kg wooden bowl and soap. It's about the size of a soup bowl. And about $200-300.
