Flor de las Antillas Toro

I don't smoke many cigars. I bought myself and my brother cigars (not cigars of the aforementioned title of this thread) for his birthday, and it was very enjoyable. I liked it a lot more than him.

I tried a few other cigars, and read up on them.
I read Cigar Afficionado's list of "Top 25 Cigars of 2012" and lists from past years. I remained on the lookout for "Flor de las Antillas Toro" by "My Father Cigars", the #1 of 2012, and by memory it had listed in previous years.
Anyways, on the way out to my Aunt's, I saw a sign advertising cigars. It was on an Indian reservation, at a very commercial looking gas station/ liquor store/ cigar store, with "totemic" architecture. Except it just was like Disney totems, if that makes sense.
Anyways, in their humidor room, they had Cigar Afficionado's top 25 of 2012 list posted right on the glass door. They had highlighted the cigars they had in stock. Sure enough, ol' number one, the subject of this review--was up there. I oogled all the cigars, but didn't see it. I methodically checked again--nothing. I became doubtful that the cigar was in stock, and short of asking for assistance, I looked again and waaaaaah! (not crying, that's angelic music, like before the Simpson's intro) There was Flor de las Antillas Toro. I bought one, (I grabbed a couple, but was reminded by my brother that this was unnecessary). So I bought the one, knowing there were more if I absolutely loved it. I adored #3 of the list--Romeo by Romeo y Julietas. I think I've gotten it twice--in different shapes. Yeah the first time it was better. I anticipated a cigar even better than that.
To start, underwhelming, peppery. I tried to fool myself. Then...is that bitterness? A strong, strong bitterness? And gobs of tar, yes, why yes it is very bitter and there's gooey tar coming out the end, how gross. I'd never had that experience with a cigar before, or since (I think I've smoked one cigar since this experience). Well, maybe someone will tell me I 'smoked it wrong' or 'cut it wrong' or something else. But it was a bad cigar. I had fun smoking it though, going up to my aunt's and smoking it in the car riding shotgun. 'Twas a bad cigar, I do say.

A couple of thoughts

gently puff out occasionally, this will reduce the draw of tar down the cigar.

The cigar could also have been wet which will increase the tar production during smoking, if you bought this and smoked it, usually cigar stores keep their humidor at 70-75 RH where IMHO cigars smoke best at 65% RH. I usually buy cigars but smoke what has been sitting in my humidor resting at a lower RH.

I have noticed the bitterness in the Flors in the past 6 months. I personally don't like this and have stopped smoking them since I had a bitter one. 12 months ago these were outstanding and worthy of cigar of the year, I can't help but wonder if the increased production to meet demand hasn't caused problems with production.
