What's new

FS Five straights (including a Heljestrand), four DEs (including a Karve set and a British flat-bottom Tech), and one beautiful vintage brush

Just in time for Christmas presents (for yourself or others), I have decided to part ways with all but one of my straights, and with several DEs and a brush. Note: all straight razors were professionally honed at least once, and competently stropped between shaves. I do NOT warrant any of these as for sure “shave ready,” but they are all capable shavers. Some may need mild touch-up honing before they will meet your shaving needs. Prices for all razors of every type do NOT include shipping. Shipping costs will be estimated online by your location, and cost of shipping will be ADDED to the prices shown. Will ship anywhere in the world provided the buyer pays shipping.

Pics and descriptions follow:

1) Tilquin straight razor. This one was made by Theirs Issard for the Belgian market. 5/8, near full hollow, nice inscription on the blade, proper pin, centers properly. Blade is very slightly warped. Paid $70 for this one. Will let it go for $49 plus shipping.

2) Cheap Chinese “Grandslam” razor. Came completely unusable, but was professionally honed to be a good shaver. Fairly heavy wooden scales. You can buy this type of razor online for probably less than $20, but it takes a lot of work to get it where it will shave well. 5/8, half-hollow, thick spine. Pin is fine, blade centers. This would be a good razor for a beginner, but will likely need to be honed prior to use. Because a beginner might need to send it off for honing, will let it go cheaply; let’s say $11 plus shipping.

3) CV Heljestrand MK No 7. Yep, the legendary Swedish steel. This one is a beaut, and a fantastic shaver. Narrower blade (4/8?), full hollow. Pin is good, blade centers. Blade in good condition. When honed properly, this one is a real pleasure. Not far from shave ready as is, but would be fantastic with a touch-up. Black scales. Will take $99 plus shipping, even though I shouldn’t. Paid far more.

4) T Noonan and Sons “Revere” razor. This was a small company from upstate New York. This one probably started life as a 5/8 but is a bit narrower after years and years of honing. Near full hollow. Scales are some kind of plastic but kind of look like faux bone. This was my very first straight razor; thought about keeping it for sentimental reasons but will move it along. User grade but don’t let its looks fool you; good shaver, takes a good edge and holds an edge well. Blade centers. This would also be good for a beginner. I will let it go for $31 plus shipping.

5) This one is a Japanese razor, called a Rosette. It’s a shorty, and it was manufactured as such (not modified). Absolutely beautiful blade shape, nice off-white scales. Good pin, closes centered. Excellent steel. About a 5/8 and close to full hollow. A good shaver. Some gents find it easier to shave with a shorty, especially when coming from DE or SE razors. I hesitated to put this one up for sale, too; this will make a great holiday present for somebody. I feel like blowing this one out quickly, so I’ll take $79 plus shipping.

6) Wolfman DE razor handle, matte finish. About 94 mm, and weighing well-balanced 68 grams. In great condition. Traded a one-of-a-kind UFO worth well over $200 for this one, but will take the loss and sell it for $179 plus shipping.

7) Ikon X3 slant razor. This is a mild shaver with a mild true torqued slant head. It is made of a fairly dense aluminum alloy. The handle is a light aluminum. I like the color difference between the handle and the head. There is very little blade feel. For those who like mild DEs, this one will delight. $19 plus shipping.

8) British flat-bottom Tech head (no handle). There is a lot of mystique around the British-made flat-bottom Tech, and for good reason. It’s an excellent shaver. This one is user grade, to be sure, but it shaves wonderfully. I am paring down my Tech stable to just one, so this one has to go. How about $19 plus shipping for this one, too?

9) Leather straight-razor sleeve. I should have posted this further up with the straights, but I messed up. I’ll let this go for $8 plus shipping by itself, or for $5 extra if you buy one of the straight razors. If you take it with a straight, no shipping charge, either.

10) Karve CB aluminum razor set. Includes handle, top cap, and four baseplates. You get a C, a D, and an E safety bar plates plus a D open comb plate. Four razors in all. Comes with original box and papers. I paid $125 a few months ago. I will let the entire set go for $97 plus shipping.

11) Last but not least, a gorgeous Klenzo vintage brush in true butterscotch (two-tone, no less). This is not a recently manufactured, faked butterscotch color, but the butterscotch that develops only with the passage of time. The knot is either a Best Badger or a Finest Badger from The Golden Nib (I honestly can’t remember for sure). I haven’t used it in a long time. I can’t promise it won’t shed a few hairs. I think it will be fine. The pic from the top shows that the knot is still plenty dense. Even if it needs a new knot, though, the handle is beautiful. Let’s make this one go bye-bye pretty quickly; I paid way more than this for the knot alone: $37 plus shipping.
