So I mentioned in my newbie thread the other day that I was waiting from my shaving supplies to show up in the mailbox. I got them today and thought I'd share my first wet shaving experience.First my setup. I have my razor from an antique store, a Gillette Fat Boy (Thanks to Andy for helping me identify it by the way). My brush is a Dreadnought Avenger brush. I also had Taconic pre-shove oil and Van Der Hagan shavee soap.Anyway, I started right after a shower with the preshave oil, then a hot towel. Once I'd done that for a while, I lathered up and started shaving. One other little detail here: I've not been able to shave for about 2 weeks since I lost my Mach 3 (that was my excuse to make the change). This isn't as big a deal for me as for most guys. My two weeks is about the same as 3 or four days growth on most guys thanks to a genetic mix that includes a lot of ethnicities that don't have facial hair at all, but still it was a lot more hair on my face than I'm used to.I had to relather six or seven times as I slowly reduced the hair form my face. I initially started with the blade set to 1, but after the first couple passes I moved it up to 3.When I finished I put a cold wet towel on my face for a few minutes and reached for my aftershave lotion, only to find that it's missing (did I mention my kids like to play in the bathroom?) so no aftershave this time. And believe me I can tell.I managed to only nick myself, just barely at that, once. I found it hard to break the habit of pushing the razor against my face like you do with disposables. I'll get used to it, but I think it's going to take some time.Overall I did better the first time using a safety razor than I thought I would.
