First two straights, how'd I do?

Here are some pictures of the two straights that I bought for $15 at an antique store. These are my first two straights, and I forgot to take any "before" pictures, but let's just say they were not pretty when I bought them. Tomorrow I'm going to visit Howard of The Perfect Edge because I live nearby, and he is going to set me up with some hones, and I'll probably ask him to hone one of these for me.

Anyways, how'd I do?

Awesome :)

Unfortunately, the Sheffield was honed improperly in the past and now it doesn't sit flat on the hone. It obviously needs some love from a professional, so I'm bringing it to Howard and while I'm there I'll see if I can get a cheap honing setup. If not, I have the lapping film on the way from you :)

So being impatient, I decided to hone the ATOR myself on some wet/dry sandpaper up to p2500 (the equivalent of a 2000 grit norton stone). At the time, I didnt realize this, I thought it was a much higher grit, and since it was passing the HHT (which I was not performing correctly) I figured it might be worth a shot! :w00t:

After losing some blood and doing some fact-checking, I felt like a total idiot, but now I cant wait to use a properly sharpened razor because the shave actually wasnt that bad!

I have a ATOR and you will not be disappointed. They take a very nice edge and the humpback makes it nice to hold. My ERN's are at the top of my list as my favorite shavers.

lol... nice.... trial and error is always the best teacher....

you will do fine..... both of those razors will perform the task splendidly....

i would be proud to have either of them in my collection.. *(hint hint if you decide to sell DIBS!!)

Nice looking razors. Congrats on the finds. Once you get them honed, they should perform very well. Enjoy your shaves!
