First two shaves using a scuttle

I picked up a DB Travel Scuttle about a month ago and just got around to using it this week because I was cold water shaving for a couple of weeks to get a nice contrast to the different methods. Interestingly, the warm lather from the scuttle has much the same effect as cold water shaving, namely, less irritation and nicks. Plus, warm lather is soooo luxurious.

I will likely use the scuttle in the colder weather and go with cold water shaving in the summer.

I been curious and looking at scuttles, pretty fancy and makes the idea of grabbing one seem good...I haven't had a warm lather in a long time...well one that stays warm for longer than a few minutes as my ceramic bowl doesn't hold heat much. Question to those who know...how will a scuttle fair in my cold shaving routine? I could do my routine same old but with a warm or hot scuttle and warm lather, hum that might clash but should work right? a Hot/Cold shave lol. We'll call it luke :))

I'd have to think a scuttle doesn't fit into a cold shave routine, unless you want to use it with ice water in it and really make it a cold shave routine... lol

Scuttle= newbie. After a while you will forget all the bells and whistles and shave like a man.

what kind of statement is this?

i use my scuttle daily. either bowl or brush.

not sure i'd consider it a "newbie" product.

when it's 630am and i'm facing leaving the house at -40, I like warm lather.

if nothing else, it's a a beautiful, dedicate piece to make lather in, with or without using the water reservoir.

I must be going backwards, then. I saw the scuttle as kind of an advanced accessory for when you know you like this whole wet shaving thing and want to make the whole process better. It took me quite a while to decide to get one.

I'm a large fan of mine when it's all wintery and cold, I know that much. Not sure how it qualifies as newbie gear. Not to mention, what is a hobby without the bells and whistles? If someone wants to be minimalist, more power to them. No reason to throw inflammatory statements at the others that prefer a different path...

seems like it's a regular type of post for this member. :thumbdown nothing of substance to add but a little jab.

as for scuttles, i've owened many and currently have 2 in heavy rotation. A DB1.5 and SRD brush scuttle. both are excellent, look great and i enjoy using them both.

only thing a new shaver has to worry or watch, is to not use TOO hot of water, as some products break down in heat, or at least that's what i've found. when this is the case, i use warm water and have little to no issues with breakdown.

like shave_rat said, it's a nice little extra, not necessity, that brings joy to many shavers. we don't need 6-8 or more $150+ brushes, 10 razors and the choices of 20 different soaps/creams, but must of us do. it's what makes DE shaving fun.

I'm noticing that the warm lather makes a big difference in the scent on my soaps/creams. I used some coconut cream with mine the first time, and the whole room smelled like warm coconut pie when I was done. It just brought things to a whole new level. I can see how it could be a pain if you don't have enough room, time, etc., though.

Yeah, they aren't for everyone, nor possibly all the time, but it's a luxury accessory I'm extremely glad I picked up. Heck, it even cost less than 100 pack of Feather blades, and with care, will outlast me, and possibly my kids, even.
