What's new

First touchdown

I picked this one up at a mall a couple of months ago and the space was 50% off, but I can't remember what it cost. Either $5 or $10.

I put the nib into the ink, push the plunger and then wait 10 seconds (found the instructions at penhero.com). When I push the plunger down, I hear and see bubbles. Writes nice. If I want to clean it out, do I just do the same as ink loading - except using some ammonia and water?

Not sure about the year either.

You should check the sac and make sure it isn't cracked or hardened in the metal sheath. It will bubble and write for a while with a rock hard or blown sac, making a big mess inside. Just poke it gently with a toothpick through one of the holes in the metal cover to check if it's still pliable.

And yeah, Jim, that's how you would flush it. If you've got a bad seal on the pump end you can remove the sheath and manually squeeze to clean.

Nice score, love the FeatherTouch nibs!

Yes, that is the way to flush it. I wouldn't use the ammonia unless you have a lot of dried ink. Warm water should work just fine.

The metal cover is solid. When I bought it, at least I didn't hear a marimba. Is there something somewhere about how these come apart?

The section unscrews normally (be careful!) and inside there is the sac cover. It should be shiny, although some are occasionally black, and it will have several holes in it.

The cover just pulls off.

My opinion, too. Water carved the Grand Canyon, it will eventually clean your fountain pen.

+1. I am A believer in a "water only" pen flush. Take your time, enjoy the flushing process. Embrace the process. It is one of the fun parts about vintage fountain pens.

In another thread you said "embrace the flush". Were I a moderator, you'd be sporting a shiny new custom title

I noticed this as well. One time the comment was directed at me... Don't know whether I should be offended or not. And why is there no "flush" smiley!?
