What's new

First time with MdC!

Ok, I was a little skeptical seeing all the talk and wondering if it was actually true.

Then I saw Garry had organized a way to get samples, and I had to try. I got both the regular and fougere.

Well tonight I tried the fougere. And all I have to say is wow. So easy to lather. About 10 seconds of loading on the sample "puck", and then away I went into my dollar tree salsa bowl.

Just an explosion of lather. And not bubbly and airy, but creamy, lathery goodness.

Now for the shave, the scent was clean and I am not sure how else to describe it, but I liked it. And the feel after each stroke of the razor was very nice. Just feels like clean skin. The soap doesn't leave a lot behind, but provides a nice cushion and slick lather.

And of course as this was my first shave with it, I will be able to dial in the lather as I learn it.

If you are on the fence, get it. This is great soap, now I just gotta convince SWMBO I need the full tub!

It is a pleasure everytime with MDC , enjoy,

and sure you need that full tub  and it is $$ but 200Grams,
(same size as a Castle-Forbes at 48$!!)

Ask me about shaving naked!
Order a couple to cut down on the per-jar shipping, and add some of the bath soaps for her! In the bath soaps, I'd suggest the fougere, the rose, and the thym, girofle, and canelle (thyme, clove, and cinnamon).

Cheers, Steve

I've got a jar coming tomorrow that I picked up from the B/S/T (and the same lather bowl!) It is torture not to shave today and try out a new razor I picked up so I have a nice beard for the soap.

Its so heavenly. I look forward to every time I use it. I think its one of the few products that can stand up to the extreme amount of hype it gets.

Third time using it myself. I have struggled with it. I got some nice lather today using a Thater brush that I can put a bit more force on. I hand lathered. I think if I face lathered my face would be sore from all the action it takes to load it.

Anyway, I suspect I'll get better with it, but this is one of the few soaps I've ever 'struggled with' I suspect the first couple times was lack of product which should become easier with use as it 'softens' up a bit.

The lather was heavenly though. The thickest lather I've ever made.

Sure, if you're short of the price of a few cups of "milk with loads of sugar and a little bit of coffee" at Starbucks then trying to copy MdC is something to consider. And surely it's nice to be able to make your own, regardless. That's not something to knock.
But it's also worth supporting genuine artisans in the old style, that are not owned by some mega corporation, who produce top quality product at a price that reflects the effort and time taken to create it. I can assure you that noone is making billions from running Martin de Candre - I'm sure they're comfortable which is no less than they deserve for giving us such a marvellous product.
Voilà.

And day 2 of lather porn:

You guys are right. I want this soap. So easy and so nice. The sample isn't enough!

Didin't expect from MdC Unscented to irritate my face. Strange burning sensation directly from the start. Scent is so-so for me...

Hopefully in Paris I'll be able to pick up a sample. No way can I spring for the full size before trying it out.

Are you saying the unscented scent is so so? I haven't had a bad reaction to too many unscented soaps. I suppose if they added too much base it would end up basic and create a burn but it shouldn't be from the start. Base's take a long time before you feel the burn.

Looks like the shipping to Austria would be bad for me. In a couple of weeks I'll be in Paris for a few days so hope to find something tasty
