What's new

First time using The Real Shaving Company products.

I picked up some of the RSC moisturizing shave cream and balm a little while back and today was my first time using it. I quite liked the scent of both, unique but subtle. As for performance it was a bit harder to lather then my proraso but got a decent lather going, it felt pretty protective and did seem to be pretty moisturizing and the balm was light and very moisturizing. All in all its a great price, easily available, and a pretty good quality. I would recommend it and am looking forward to trying some of the sensitive formula which I was not able to find. If anyone has any tips on how to get a good lather going with it, that would be greatly appreciated. I was using my Feather Popular TTO with a Zorrick super stainless (3), any input or suggestions welcome !

Thanks,

I suppose it all depends on what you call "good lather".
I use RSC products and yes, Proraso makes nicer looking lather, in my experience anyway. I like the RSC products and always have good shaves with them. I also use their facial scrub that does a fantastic job softening the hairs. I agree, the balm is excellent as well.
RSC cream is different from Proraso and one should remember that, keeping an open mind.

I really like the performance of RSC shave cream and like that I can purchase it locally. Some don't care for the scent but I find it agreeable. I find that I use more water with RSC than Proraso to get a good lather. I think they are in the same league as good value creams that perform well. I find that the RSC balm works well but is a bit runny. I am using raw shea butter as an aftershave balm which is less expensive and performs better for me especially when the weather turns colder. YMMV.

I find RSC shaving cream is a fantastic product for the cheap price and like that its double concentrated. As for comparing it to Proraso, RSC is a cream. I call Proraso a croap. Hybrid cream/soap so expect differences when comparing the two.

TRSC is one of the best drugstore brands out there. Good performance, and tremendous bang for your buck.

But stay away from their "Self-Heating Shave Masque," a pre-shave cream that warms up your beard. Stay far, far away.

It is a horrible product. It doesn't spread over your beard very easily. The self-heating property comes from some nasty chemicals that you don't want in contact with your skin, and the heat only lasts about a second. It is not very water-soluble and doesn't rinse off easily. And if you leave it on and lather over top of it, it will clog your razor.

It is by far the worst shaving product I've ever used. I'd even be embarassed to give it away for free in a PIF.

Over-all, TRSC makes some great products. Just not this one.

Thanks guys, VerbaVolant I agree the proraso lather looks nicer but I had just as good a shave if not a bit better with the RSC cream on the first try. BRiTD I will keep that in mind thanks, and will stay away from the self heating masque.
